Apple iPhone Software 3.0 Q&A (currently in standby)

We are currently downloading and installing the iPhone 3.0 software beta. The event will be covered via CoverItLive, a service that allows us to communicate with members directly and post updates whenever one comes in. Whether you have an iPhone or not, we hope this Q&A of sorts will help everyone to understand what Apple has added to this software update.

"By installing iPhone 3.0 beta on your Test Devices, these devices are permanently "locked" into testing mode and cannot be restored!"

Exactly. A complete reflash etc?! It isn't possible to permanently lock the device from being reflashed or else it could never be repaired, let alone upgraded. Hopefully a clarification is forthcoming.

It includes an update to the baseband, which is difficult to reverse. The new baseband is, I assume, compatible with nothing less than iPhone OS 3.0.

Correction: the 3.0 is not available to free ADC accounts yet. Probably not until it is final in the Summer.

Is their any way for a normal user to get their hands on the beta... :P

Yes. Sign up for a free ADC account and download it, once their servers pick up.
