LulzSec releases private Arizona law enforcement files

Another day, another release of private files from LulzSec. Earlier today the very public and apparently very busy cyber hacking group announced on its official web site that it had "hundreds of private intelligence bulletins, training manuals, personal email correspondence, names, phone numbers, addresses and passwords belonging to Arizona law enforcement." The reason for the release is to protest a law passed in Arizona in 2010 that some people believe targets immigrants unfairly.

LulzSec released the documents via a file download on the Pirate Bay web site. According to a story at the Wall Street Journal, a spokesperson from the Arizona Department of Public Safety said that the LulzSec release "appeared to be authentic". The apparent source of the leak came from the "email accounts of eight officers." In its press release LulzSec said, "Every week we plan on releasing more classified documents and embarassing [sic] personal details of military and law enforcement in an effort not just to reveal their racist and corrupt nature but to purposefully sabotage their efforts to terrorize communities fighting an unjust “war on drugs”.

This is just the latest in a string of cyber attacks from the LulzSec group in the past two months. The group has targeted several gaming web sites including Minecraft and Escapist Magazine and attacked the servers of the MMO EVE Online and the US servers of Nintendo. The group has also attacked Sony owned web sites, the CIA web site, PBS.org and more.

Oh.
Excluding the fact that if it is good or bad, Lulzsec attack is brilliant.

Their strategic is simple, if not plain stupid but pretty effective:
a) hack unsafe server. Is amazing how so many server are prone to sql-injection, or even worst, for GET (url) hack.
b) then collection information about some "x" account.
c) then use this information to attack more secure system.

So, no matter if some "x" site is ultra-safe or not, if your account was leaked, and you are using the same username/password then, it is trivial to enter any system.

Corollary :never ever use the same password.

This is why the government shouldn't be allowed to store information about you. They can't keep it safe!

And some people, here on Neowin, said that LulzSec was nothing but a bunch of twelve year-old script kiddies who only knew DDoS... Guess they proved you wrong!

In case you didn't notice, NOBODY can keep it safe.

If what they are doing is bringing identities to justice, I'm with them. Obviously no one is going to kill a officer that has no proof of being corrupt or racist or anything. Besides, this isn't about the police, it's about higher states of security, FBI, CIA, Government Stuff. The war on drugs its been proven to be a total failure, not only they "don't do nothing about it," there's actually evidence that its supported by government identities.
Money talks! I agree to end this joke.

Lulz ftw.

You sir, are a moron.

Yes, obviously. It's a well known fact that the type of person who will kill for a moral reason always double-checks their proof first. Murderers are a level headed bunch of people. /s

Your kidding right? I drug runner/gun runner/Drug lord from Mexico hates ALL police, regardless if they are corrupt, racist whatever, they hate all of them. By releasing this information, these guys can now target the police outside the line of duty, target families to stop them from doing their legitimate job.

*legitimacy and the popularity*

That's a laugh .. how do you work that one out??

Most people don't give a **** from where I'm standing ..

What are you talking about? http://www.lulzsec.com has never been offline for me. I keep checking that site every now and then.

If you pay attention you'll notice a shift of interest in LulzSec's actions, they're now going from anarchism to activism. It appears their latest alliance with Anonymous is starting to materialize into a quite interesting plan : Anon gives the motive, the legitimacy and the popularity while Lulz works as a kind of private militia giving Anon the attack force they previously lacked.

Oh they are not only teaming with just Anonymous group. It shows that there are 5 more hacking group join their effort.

SB1070 is not about racism. Just people are quick to jump to that conclusion if you are the ones affected, or just people wanting some attention and who like making trouble. If crime, drugs, and all the other problems down south were up north, then we would be doing the same thing with Canada. And Arizona isnt the only state to pass these laws either. And some are more stricter than AZs.

This all stated out with causing a little bit of trouble. Now its putting people in danger and is just out of control. "Hackers" and I use that term loosely with LULZ, dont do things to harm others. Just kids hiding behind a computer. They will be caught and I am sure the media and gov will have a field day with it as well.

Also, would be interesting to see if other, legit hackers, get fed up with their antics and go after them. No matter how good you think you are...always someone better...unless you happen to be the smartest man out there...and these kids obviously are not.

Other hackers/hacking groups have gone after them

The law is not racist but their application.

For example, the so called "random and exhaustive control" in airport, IS RACIST.

If they release any details I hope they keep private details that concern the safety of people at bay. I understand exploiting to show holes but just like Wikileaks - don't put people in danger.

Wikileaks = joke
Lulzsec = real deal.

Not all cops ARE racist and they are not the ones making the laws. By posting addresses of some police offices, that could in theory put them and their family in very serious danger.

I have no problem with memos and such being released if it pertains to exposing corruption or something but peoples address is something different.

Would Lulzsec be as great of people as they think they are if some 5 year old kid of a cop gets murdered because some low life is able to track where a cop that busted him lives?

Maybe such incidents are necessary for them to reconsider their staggeringly ill-advised policy of hiring 5 year olds.

Err, he said the kid of a cop...

Hey, if they have data that proves that a police force is racist, I see no problem bringing it out into the open. I have not looked at any of the data, but if that is the motivation for it, I am sure plenty of people would like to see what their taxes are really paying for.

*sigh* This won't stop until we're all forced to connect through identities, which might not be such a bad thing (no more hacking, no more viruses, no more malware).

No offense to you or anything, but that idea is laugh-out-loud ridiculous. Connecting through identities will not end hacking, viruses, or malware.

Even if they managed to gather enough support for such a crazy idea, the U.S. government would hardly be capable of managing such a project.

Oh yes, another thing to add to our insane debt. Even if implemented, you can't forget about stealing identities.

If anything it'd help it. Hackers would just steal that information and use it as another layer of protection for themselves.

Obviously you underestimate the US Government's ability to spend billions of dollars in effort to force its will upon the citizenry.

I have no doubt the US government is capable of spending money, but force its will? How? They can barely get half the people to pay income tax... (if those last figures I heard are true anyway)

Just because they can go through with something, doesn't mean it works.

Agree with it or not, the government decided people must have state sponsored health care, so they created laws to enact it. Social Security, Welfare, Medicare, Medicaid, Federal Income Tax - just because they can go through with something, doesn't mean it works.

Erm i would say its free, im 24 and i haven't ever paid for an operation or treatment yet apart from Antibiotics which are heavily discounted. I would say it does work and is free (even if it comes out of my tax) at least i know i can go to a doctors whenever i want without worry about the cost.

Oh and it covers me in the EU with my N11 card so when i have been away and got injured i haven't had to pay either
