Microsoft has been moving toward using cloud-based services more and more, for both its consumer and business customers. Today, the company announced new updates for its enterprise users, which it has covered under its "Cloud OS" branding.
Today's press release announced that it has launched System Center 2012 Service Pack 1, which allows IT workers to manage systems with Windows Server 2012 and Windows Intune. It states:
With the updated System Center, customers can centrally manage cloud-based applications and resources running in their datacenters, on a hosted service provider datacenter or on Windows Azure. By integrating service provider cloud capacity and management directly into their operations, enterprises can extend their datacenter capabilities. Administrators can move virtual machines to Windows Azure and manage them from within System Center, based on their needs.
ZDNet.com reports that Microsoft actually released the SP1 version of System Center 2012 quietly in December, along with the fourth version of its Windows Intune service. During a webcast today, the company also revealed it has launched Windows Azure Services for Windows Server, which adds features such as hosted virtual machines, a service management portal and more to Windows Server users.
Finally, Microsoft has launched a preview version of Global Service Monitor, which is designed check web-based performance tool with Windows Azure. The final version is scheduled to launch sometime in March.
