Microsoft announces ReddX, a Reddit app for Xbox One

Microsoft has announced new apps coming to the Xbox One, including the first ever Reddit app designed for TV, named ReddX.

The ReddX app looks quite impressive, especially considering this is version 1.0, and there’s no doubt that fans of the Xbox One and Reddit will be thrilled with it. Here are some of the features coming to the console via the ReddX app:

  • Sign-in to your Reddit Accout
  • Support for subreddits, GIFs and embedded videos
  • Support for posting comments, upvoting and starting new threads
  • Voice Commands including upvoting and snapping

The app will become available tomorrow, but here’s the downside: the app is only available to the US and Canada for now. And that’s likely because of all the voice features.

Aside from ReddX, Xbox One users can also look forward to a new MTV app that offers bonus clips, sneak peeks and full episodes of the "Music Television's" shows. The new MTV app will only launch in the US for now.

Finally, Twitch is getting an update with some new features. Included are auto-zoom, audio capture from headsets. There’s also a new section called “watch with friends” where you can check-out the channels that your friends are currently watching.

You don't need Gold guys, every app can be accessed without gold. As seen:

Do I need Xbox Live Gold to use ReddX?
Nope! Both Gold and Silver Xbox Live members can use ReddX.

Also, in addition, the app is available is only avaiable in the US/Canada due to adverts:

How come ReddX is only in the U.S. and Canada?
Unfortunately, our ad provider only serves ads in these countries at this time. We would very much love to bring ReddX worldwide, and are exploring options to do so while still being able to pay the bills and keep the lights on.

Come on guys, there's a reddit thread which explains everything.

Don't let the truth get in the way of a good xbox/microsoft bashing!

This whole philosophy is exactly why the PS4 will remain the best-selling and most popular console for a long time.

Since that statement was incorrect, has your stance altered any?

Slightly. Microsoft has improved their policy with the Xbox One. But the lack of overseas support is typical for Microsoft. Sony always makes an effort to roll things out globally as fast as possible. We in Belgium still can't buy the Xbox One and don't even have proper Bing.

Fair enough. Supposedly they are working to get an ad supplier for this to go overseas, I wonder how long that will take

Why is this behind a paywall?? Do MS never learn?

If an app is paywalled its down to the app makers not Ms. But this seems to be false anyway as its not locked to gold members.
