Microsoft infographic reveals info on taking laptops on vacation

It's not officially summer yet in the US but by now most kids are out of school and enjoying their all too brief summer break. Naturally, a lot of families will be traveling on vacation during the summer months. In a new infographic released by Microsoft on the Windows Experience blog, the company talks about a study it commissioned to find out how people use technology while on vacation.

The infographic reveals that 75 percent of the people who were polled plan to take their laptop with them, versus 70 percent for their smartphone. The number one thing people do on their laptop while on vacation is share their adventures on social networking sites. Other top features include gathering information, getting directions, and playing games and movies.

Speaking of movies, Microsoft's study claims that 57 percent of the people who were polled admit to looking at the screen of another person's laptop while they are on a plane. The biggest reason for doing so is seeing what movie or TV show that person might be watching.

Overall 90 percent of the people who were polled in this Microsoft study say they plan to spend at least one hour a day on their laptop while on vacation. That's a lot of time for an activity where technically you are supposed to be getting away from it all.

Hmmm....

41% of Females due to go with their significant other, whilst only 32% of Males due to go with their significant other.

Whilst possible to get these figures based on the presumption they didn't necessarily questions both people in relationship, with a good survey you wouldn't expect a 9% difference between m/f... unless females in same sex relationships are much more likely to go away than males in same sex relationships. However even if this is the case I doubt this still accounts for the 9% swing... more likely a poor survey, I also highly doubt 75% of people take a laptop on Holiday.

(ps. Is this just me?... I think people should tell each other about their vacations in pubs etc. when they get back. If people don't see of speak to each other then they probably don't care about their vacation. Whenever I see Facebook updates of people's vacations I often think they are really trying to say "look at ME! ... here on my magical vacation, what a spectacular adventure, aren't I cool!", but the reality is I'm thinking whilst those people should enjoy their holiday more and stop looking at the world through a camera, and solely living their lifephotos for the purposes of their facebook account.)

I don't take my Laptop with me. I just take my iPad and iPhone. That covers my Music, Movies, Apps, Games, Email & Internet use and anything else I need to do.

Study is rigged !!!

Smart phone lost by just 5% ??

I think to establish the PC and importance of Windows OS, study deliberately undermined the smart phone !!

When some one has both, smart phone like high end android / iPhone / Windows phone will be picked ahead of bulky laptop any day

Keep in mind that at the moment more people have laptops than smartphones... That is changing, but likely was the cause for the difference in this survey.

It's actually nice to have a couple of movies and tv shows on your laptop while waiting for a flight and on a long boring flight.

I've thought the whole concept of vacations is to leave everything behind and enjoy that short period of freedom without any attachments.
