It's been a year of extraordinary change at Microsoft - from devastating cuts to its phone division, including the largest layoffs in its history, to shakeups at the executive level, along with some notable departures from the company.
One of the more significant changes in Microsoft's upper echelons came in June, with the formation of a new Windows and Devices Group, under Executive Vice President Terry Myerson. His role makes him one of the most powerful people in the company, overseeing its operating systems and hardware, with other key executives such as Panos Panay answering directly to him.
And as our old friend and former colleague, Brad Sams - now with Petri.com - reports, Microsoft has now made another couple of changes at the top of the Windows and Devices Group.
Kudo Tsunoda has been appointed as the new Corporate Vice President (CVP) of Windows Apps Studio, while Chuck Friedman has been promoted to CVP of Windows Shell Program Management. Both will serve as members of the Windows and Devices Group Leadership Team under Myerson.
Microsoft acknowledged the appointments, adding that they will help it to "continue to deliver great experiences on Windows 10 and devices, including Xbox, Surface and HoloLens." Brad also mentioned that, according to his sources at Microsoft, these personnel changes are intended to help with internal preparations for a renewed push of its Universal Windows Platform for apps.
