Microsoft Store to open in Boston this summer

Microsoft continues to expand its Microsoft Store locations in the US. This week, the Microsoft Store web site confirmed that a new Boston retail store would open sometime later this summer. The specific location will be the Shops at Prudential Center mall in Copley Square. It will be the first Microsoft Store location in the state of Massachusetts.

The Boston Herald website reports that the location of the mall where the Boston Microsoft Store will be placed is across the street from a Apple store.

Microsoft currently has 16 locations open in the US for its Microsoft Store retail operation. Besides Boston, future stores are also scheduled to open in Danbury, Connecticut,  Overland Park, Kansas, and two locations in New Jersey, Bridgewater and Freehold. which would bring the total number of Microsoft Store locations to 21.

Back in July 2011, Microsoft revealed it had plans to open 75 new Microsoft Store locations over the next two to three years, back when it had 10 stores open. So far the number of new store openings and announcements has not yet kept pace with Microsoft's previously announced plans. Microsoft also said it was going to launch Microsoft Store locations outside the US but so far this has not happened.
