Microsoft will open 11 specialty retail stores in May

We have been keeping track of Microsoft's plans to open future retail stores via job openings on their careers site. Today, Microsoft officially confirmed it will be opening 11 specialty retail stores in the U.S. during the month of May.

The Microsoft Store Facebook page posted a list of the store locations and opening dates. As you can see from the included map, they are spread out all over the country. These are the kiosk-like stores that sell a limited number of Microsoft related products like Surface tablets, Xbox Ones and more. If a location become popular, that specialty store is sometimes upgraded to become a full retail location.

Here's the full list of the new store locations and opening dates. There will be some kind of opening day sales, giveaways and promotions when each store opens but specifics were not announced.

How about other countries? Apple Stores appear in many other countries.

Microsoft only care about American's. Yes I'm bitter because I won a prize directly from Microsoft then they wouldn't ship it out to me as I didn't live in America... had to get a friend that lives there to take delivery and forward it on to me, at a price of just over £100.

Cheers for my free gift!

Woohoo. Westroads mall is going to be even more awesome. I'll visit on my way home from work.

yay for Omaha! no more staring at cornfields

This is great news! They're growing really fast in U.S. and Canada. Once they master those their home markets, we'll start seeing overseas stores. Can't wait :D

I hope it's because of an imminent Surface Mini announcement!

It's interesting now that you said that, it could be since they did this before with the Surface 2 release as well from what I remember.
