Microsoft: Xbox Video is coming to Windows Phone "this holiday season"

The Xbox Video app for Windows Phone will likely look different than the Windows 8 version.

Just a week ago, Microsoft was very non-committal when we asked them if Xbox Video was coming to Windows Phone, saying only that they "hear users and take their feedback into account as we prioritize new work." Today, Microsoft finally confirmed that an Xbox Video app for its mobile OS is on its way.

Microsoft listed Xbox Video as one of many new Windows Phone app and games that are "coming soon" in a blog post this morning. The specific description said:

Easy access to a massive library of the latest blockbuster movies and TV shows. The Xbox Video app for Windows Phone lets you buy or rent your favorite movies and shows, and watch them across any supported device. Only Windows Phone customers will be enjoying Xbox Video on their phones this holiday season.

Unfortunately, Microsoft declined to offer any screenshots on what Xbox Video looks like on Windows Phone. It also didn't state if it will be a Windows Phone 8 exclusive or if it will work on older devices.

Some of the other apps coming to Windows Phone include the official ESPN Formula 1 app, PicFeed, Plex, and of course the big announcements from Nokia World earlier today like Instagram, Vine and Flipboard.

Hopefully if you buy or subscribe to a TV show or movie you can set it up to automatically sync between your phone, computer, and Xbox, and have it sync where you left off so you can easily roam devices including iOS and Android.

Microsoft has long touted that as a feature of devices that currently have Xbox Music, so I don't see why it wouldn't be that way. (I'd be very surprised if it didn't work like that.)

because it doesnt work that way with current xbox video. At least not rentals (xbox music does sync rentals).

Sorry, I meant to write Xbox Video.

Xbox Video syncs between where you left off across devices. I don't rent content, but I know that's how it works for purchased content. Microsoft's Xbox Video page: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/video

Right. But thats the big thing though. I rented a video on my xbox, 6 hours later i was sitting in an airport thinking "ahh, ill just watch that video on my surface!....wait...damnit"

Hoping for a functionally-parallel Xbox Music, personally. You know Microsoft, being able to manipulate a playlist on my phone would be so nice...

That was the announcement from Microsoft

haha, just saw that. It's funny because i'm a plex pass subscriber and the windows phone forum is full of people complaining about abandonware they got billed / charged for and here Microsoft is announcing what plex can't even commit to its paid customers about.
