Midway acquires rights to Epic back catalogue

Midway has acquired the rights to some of the titles that make up Epic Games' back catalogue - and plans to release an "Unreal Anthology" this autumn. Priced $29.95 in the US, Unreal Anthology will be made up of the original single-player first-person shooter and its Return to Na Pali expansion pack, Unreal II: The Awakening, Unreal Tournament and Unreal Tournament 2004. The latter pairing will be the Game of the Year and Editors Choice Editions respectively.

"A whole new set of players will get to play these fantastic games for the first time and those who have already played them will be able to get the definitive boxed set for a great low price," said Epic's vice president Mark Rein. Unreal had previously been published by GT Interactive and then Infogrames/Atari before Midway announced a three-game deal in July 2004 that included Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict and, as we subsequently discovered, Unreal Tournament 2007.
