the last i tried Miranda it seemed light and efficient which is always a good thing but i think it's overall feel lacks vs Pidgin which is my IM program of choice

I love Miranda IM, but they need to at least package some of the third-party addons to support skinning and such, it's such a pain to hunt them down and keep them updated as new releases come out.

Do a lot of people use Gadu-Gadu? I've never used it, what exactly is it?

edit: ah ok read the wikipedia article ... seems like it's not popular in the states, more-so in poland. anyone ever used it ... is it "better" than the jabber protocol?

Actually almost no one uses gadu-gadu outside Poland (although I've heard that there are some Japanese users! :D).

And no, it is way worse than Jabber/XMPP protocol, it's popular here only because it's target were (and are) polish users and people got used to it.

Gadu-Gadu was our first polish IM client/protocol, that's why it's so popular in my country. I use it only because all my friends use it, but it's worse than Jabber/XMPP in many ways.
