More evidence of Surface Pro 3 emerges, could be released alongside Surface Mini

Microsoft is holding an event later this month to reportedly announce the Surface Mini, and rumors are swirling about what else we could see at the event. A report suggested that a Surface Pro 3 may be unveiled with next-gen Intel CPUs and it seems that Microsoft may have just confirmed that.

In a support document posted to the Microsoft website, Microsoft references the "Surface Pro 3 camera" in relation to the latest Windows 8.1 update. Of course, this could simply be a typo but given the recent report it would seem a new Surface Pro is on the way.

Microsoft has been committed to updating the Surface Pro since its release, releasing the Surface Pro 2 in October 2013. They then upgraded the clock speed in January 2014 with various firmware updates through its life cycle.

With a little under a week to go, we will have all the answers about what Microsoft has up its sleeve in the near future.

[Update] Microsoft told Winbeta that the reference was a typo. So, nothing to see here unless they are trying to cover their tracks.

What would they be Upgrading? The new Processors are not due out for a few months. I would more believe a price reduction and Maybe adding a 1T version.

As for Swapping my Original Pro out, think I will wait till Nov-Dec, maybe it will have an accident and they will just upgrade me.

I'm still using the original Surface Pro and recently got the Power Cover for it. If the Surface Pro 3 still keeps compatibility with the Power Cover, which I don't see why not. I'd be tempted to make the upgrade.

Maybe Surface Pro 3 will come in a smaller model too and Surface 3 will be the mini model?

Also it doesn't surprise me that Ms is rolling out newer Surface models now instead of waiting end of the year, they want to take advantage of 'Back to the school' season as Surface has provided quite popular among students.

Hmmmm could just be a refresh with the new surface 2 cameras and faster cpu? There's not much more they could add hardware wise unless its new sensors and wireless charging

I would love to see one with a dedicated proper 3d graphic chip with a proper docking station

Would be nice but not sure it would do the heat or battery life much good.

What's not proper about the docking station currently available?

I agree about the graphics chip or at least the top of the line Intel one would really help. The Docking station is just fine, seroiusly get over yourself. I have two of them (work and home) both with a USB3 pluggable port replicator. I run 4 monitors in addition to the tablet and an armatta of usb devices (I program for fingerprint scanners etc). It's a tiny bit pricey... but then again I have a tablet/laptop/desktop experience that's pretty much perfect for me. If I could game on it a bit better that would be absolutely perfect.

I haven't even had my Surface Pro 2 for 2 weeks yet. I wasn't expecting a Surface 3 until later in the year. Awesome.

You are still within the time to return it or at least today could likely be the day for that. Assuming you could have bought it at a BestBuy with 14 days return.

I bought it directly from the Microsoft Store when they had the educational sale. Honestly I'm happy with it. The only thing that would really make me return it is if it got a much better GPU but kept the same battery life (and cost the same). I'll probably end up keeping it though.

I've had mine for less than a week. I had friends buy it USA and ship it to me in China. Frankly, I'm very pleased with it so far. I attended a conference yesterday where there was no WiFi, so I turned the radio off. I got 10 hours out of the battery. Today I tethered it to my Lumia all day and got 7.5 hours. Pretty impressive.

If they're bringing out something better than this, I think my wife just inherited a Surface Pro 2.

Do you really think there's going to be that much different that you'll want to kick yourself? About the *only* thing I think is even close to on the table that may annoy me having bought one in Jan is a silo for the digitizer. :|

They could be leaving the Surface 2 and Surface Mini to cover that gap and making the Surface 3 Pro for the high-end area.

Considering the Surface 2 hasn't been out a year yet, it wouldn't seem to make sense to release new models into the market so quickly...

The Surface Pro 2 is as old as the Surface 2, I doubt that, MS would release a Surface Pro 3 without the Surface 3.

Besides, they need to move fast. Surface still has way to go and every update is badly needed. Thinner. Lighter. Better screen. Faster. They need iPad like battery life just as thin for surface... And significant weight loss on pro models.

I still can't figure out how it is people confuse iPad with Surface Pro. iPad is a big phone. Surface Pro is a miniature computer. Since computers can do many hundreds of times more stuff than phones, how or why would/could anyone confuse the two?

Read his post again, it would seem he's comparing Surface (non-Pro) with iPad, which is fine.

Agreed. And people wanting it thinner? I would hate it if my surface didn't have a full sized USB port. That is a major feature for me.

^This. You're not going to have a thinner Surface with a full sized USB port inside.

I think a Surface Pro 3 would simply be an upgrade to the current Pro 2 (meaning, 10.6").

If this is indeed 12" (like the new rumors suggest), then maybe it's a new model altogether--a Surface Pro Book (ultrabook). Therefore, it would not have the # 3 attached to it.
