Motorola gets a new logo

Google has given Motorola a new logo, seen above, which ditches the classic red circle around the Motorola 'M' for a colorful segmented circle; also gone is the bold italic "Motorola" text, replaced by a fresher lowercase version and accompanied by "a Google company", referring to how Google bought Motorola Mobility in 2011 for US$12.5 billion.

The past logo for the company can be seen below, and is still featured across most of Motorola's websites. Expect to see the new logo on a range of new Motorola devices, including the upcoming Moto X which has been teased but is yet to be officially unveiled by the company.

"a Google company" is way too big; it's like a preschooler slapped that part on. It needs to be about 1/3 the width of the "motorola" text, and aligned along the right edge of said text. Or just get rid of it altogether, it's a bit too busy for my tastes.

For once a company changes logo for something better. Lately all the logo changes have been for the worse

And no Motoogle, thankfully.

Well you cant put Moto before oogle because Moto didn't buy Google. The buyers name gets to be first...thus Googlerola

I just don't like the idea of Motorola being owned by google... I know it was only one branch of the whole Motorola company... but still seems ugh...

I have no problem with Google owning them, I am actually glad. While Moto hardware has been impressive, they continued to force MotoBlur on everything. Thank goodness Google can set them straight now!

Motorola was more then a cell phone company... it's not the cell part I don't like, it's some of the other tech / patents..

When I saw this for the first time two things came to my mind, it looks like they wrapped the fourth doctors scarf around the logo, and omg its ugly.

Don't usually care what fonts look like or a logo either particularly, but that is one ugly mofo!!

Leave it to Google though!!

Isn't that Microsoft's font? Microsoft's style?

However, amid all the confused elements and treatments here (how many are there?) the graphic M - if you look at it the right way - shines through as a perfect representation of Google. A pair of tits.

I feel like something ended when that logo changed. I grew up with that logo. I feel an odd connection too it.

I remember them from my Amiga days. The MC68000 CPU was made by Motorola. And it was awesome for its time. It's still somewhat in use, 30 years later.

They need more than a new logo to help things.

This man/woman speaks the truth, and Motorola needs to stop screwing over their customers or at least the new ones. After the Atrix/Photon ICS fiasco, I'll never ever spend another penny on their products for any reason. They had a chance to make a lot of people happy, they continually preached that ICS was coming, then they yanked the proverbial rug out from all of us Atrix and Photon owners and basically said "Too bad, no ICS for you, if you want ICS here, have a $100 coupon towards a new phone..."

Screw you, Motorola, screw you.

Yeah, I was surprised about a new logo out of the blue. Nothing seems to be happening there lately. Oh, except a new logo. But it could of course be in preparation for something. Before they announce a new product lineup, I'm sure they want to have the branding right.

Old one is outdated, but new one is so web'ish IMO. May not stand well on a device.

Old - maybe, out of date - no. Good logo never goes out of date, just like green trees.
