It's not user stupidity. Laptop cooling plates are not common sense amongst general users to be honest, thinking about air circulation constantly while using a laptop on a table or a bed isn't common sense either.

You can't call users stupid for not constantly keeping in mind things that geeks think a lot about. If it is danger, the company should inform the consumers about this, they should let consumers know about cooling plates and making sure air circulation is good, etc.
