Nero 11 software suite launched

Nero has unveiled the latest version of its multimedia software suite, Nero 11. Make the most of your photos, music, and videos in HD. Nero 11 is your 360 degree multimedia software solution for all photo, music and video management, editing, sharing, portability and backup security.

Nero 11 features significant usability enhancements throughout the entire suite. Its new “getting started” experience makes it easier than ever to understand how to use each of the applications in the suite. The new Nero MediaBrowser works with Nero Kwik Media to unify the Nero 11 suite. It provides quick access to the Nero Kwik Media library from all of the Nero 11 applications so you can easily access the content you want and work on your projects faster. Adding content to your Nero Kwik Media library is also much easier, especially from mobile devices. With Nero Kwik Mobile Sync app and Nero Kwik WiFi Sync app for Android devices, you can now easily import or sync content between your PC and Android-powered smart phones and tablet devices via USB and Wi-Fi connections. The latest version of Nero Kwik Media in Nero 11 now gives users the ability to create photo books, calendars and cards from within the application.

Nero Video 11 has been updated with powerful new features for both novice and advanced users. Its Express Editing mode features an enhanced storyboard view, themed templates and sophisticated effects make it easy to get started creating video projects. Advanced users can switch to a multi-track timeline view for even greater precision and control.

Nero Recode 11 has been completely reconstructed to make it effortless to rip and shrink non-copy protected DVDs and convert virtually any commonly used video file to different formats such as MKV and MPEG4 for playback on PCs, portable and home entertainment devices. Users can optimize their files using pre-defined or shareable custom device profiles, as well as quickly find the perfect balance between video quality and file size.

With the one-time flip of a switch in Nero BackItUp 11, users can automatically and routinely back up their entire system or just their multimedia media content to local, networked or online drives. Nero BackItUp 11 adds LIVEBackup, which allows users to restore complete systems, single partitions or single files.

Nero 11 also provides feature updates for Nero BurningROM and it is integrated with the Nero MediaBrowser. The SecurDisc Surface scan feature checks the surface of optical discs for errors that would impede the readability of the data. Nero 11 can be expanded with add-ons and apps that allow users to customize its capabilities as they need.

Yep. The final moments of a man jumping off a plane was probably after using Nero for some time. It isn't a parachute kit on his back, it's is a backpack full of Nero software.

ill skip the bloat comments and just skip to the one that matters, which is... i prefer the masterpiece of burning software which just had a update very recently which is... IMGBurn v2.5.6.0

This ver seems pretty clean and minimal looking
Looks sleek but I bet the apps probably take a 3Gig of DVD size.

I don't see why people would pay good money for this very 90s software...everything described can easily be done within Windows and maybe one or two free apps.

Exactly. you can get high quality burning software nowadays for free (i.e. IMGBurn) but the thing is Nero is pretty rooted in people as it's one of the oldest burning software's it seems so people might know the name although i suspect over the last few years or so people are really starting to know ImgBurn as that's the best for general data burning (it can do audio to but it's not really well setup for it)

hell, you could give me Nero free and i would still use IMGBurn.

p.s. as far as i know about the only thing Nero does well is 'AAC Encoder' (which works well in combination with Foobar2000 to convert AUDIO CD's (or FLAC files) to .m4a ... but then again i typically avoid AAC audio due to it being less battery efficient on my digital audio player so i tend to stick with mp3/mpc or ogg.

Last time I checked Nero had turned into an operating system which took hours to install and slowed down Windows to a crawl. Last good version was Nero 6 but maybe Nero 7 is okay because it's W7/Vista compatible. Nero 8/9/10 were the definition of bloat. I am not talking about feature bloat. I appreciate the extra features. But the loading slowness and disk space requirements for something like Nero were unacceptable.

Hah, I'm apparently the only person that uses Nero then. Personally I use the suite for 3 things:
- Burning CD/DVD/Blu-Ray is still solid
- It can play Blu-Rays with no problems.
- Recode is great for ripping/shrinking DVDs & such (it's basically a continuation of DVDShrink considering the dev who wrote DVDShrink went on to work on Nero).

But yeah, if you don't need all that & just want to burn a quick disc ImgBurn is enough.

Would consider using Nero Burning Rom if it was a standalone installer for just that product and not the other 25 programs that come with it.

Chris from Nero here.

We have listened to our users. Despite supplying a creation / media management suite for your photos, audio, video, photobooks / calendars plus DVD/CD burning with secure disc and the feature list goes on; we have slimmed the entire suite down to just under a 300megs download. You can check off all the template packs and get it to install even less. There is no question as we moved from PC centric world to web only installs we have continued to slim the downloads and speed up the installs.

While any single tool is going to always be much smaller, this is a media management suite. That includes features like green screen video editing, photo book creation with 1000+ clip art, recode with GPU optimization engine, live back up, WiFi sync, cloud storage and more...

So may I suggest if you want a "Suite" of integrated media tools, then Nero 11 is IMHO the best. The suite is more than just burning a lot more :-) ..

Hi Chris,

I agree with the "suite" part. I have used Nero for a long time, no doubt the latest versions seem to be declining in bloat size, however I still feel compelled to say, that isn't just the download size it matters, but the performance of the application in general.
Most of my clients have Nero Express installed and seem to enjoy it, it's very good for the average user, while many experts still prefer much smaller and simple burn tools like ImgBurn, CDBurnerXP, etc, and apply other software for editing or other needs, no doubt you hit a large number of users with a all-in-one suite.
So, if the bloat on the latest version have actually been less of a problem, if you improved the code in-app, then congrats and keep up the good work. Nero has been great for a while, but there was a time which you might be familiar with, that was just huge, slow, and problematic.

Greetings.

Hi MidnightDevil,

One can always put together the leanest tool set with separate pieces. And in most cases it will seem lean as you download each one at a time. Nero 11 includes an integrated Media Browser that enables the video file or audio file or photo file to shared across applications.

And we have re-built many parts of the suite to run faster with less dependencies and better CPU and GPU optimization.

Some users may not need the suite, so I agree with you that using our stand alone products are the best value.

Hi Chris,

Sorry to say it but your company didn't listen to anything. Wherever you browse the web you will see the word ''bloat'' associated with the NERO Suite.

Simply put this is what We Don't Need:

Media management
Photobooks
Calendars
Sync iTunes
Rip movies
Convert Videos
Live Backup
Media Browser............

We need a simple burning tool like Nero Burning ROM 5.5.7.8 (11.1 MB) or Nero Burning Rom 6.6.0.16 (33 MB). Nero SHOULD understand that normal users DON'T NEED all that features from above to burn apps and other stuff. There is a lot of burning software under 10 megs floating on the web so the competition is very hard for you. Go back to the micro sized Nero Burning Rom 10/30 MB and you will see people using Nero again. Don't try to fool us with Kwik Media, because it doesn't work, like I said we don't need an APP Store , we need a tiny, small efficient burning software like Nero Burning ROM used to be in the past.

Hi Copernic,

You are completely right about what you find people posting about Nero and "bloat".
But, its very rare though they are talking about our latest products. We have been to the "Gym" on that.. And while we can get even slimmer, all I can say about that is stay tuned to our youtube channel, cause we see what you see and we get it...

Keep in mind, we provide Free Burning Tools with 1) Nero Kwik Media
2) Advanced Tools with Nero Burning Rom 11 (Stand alone)
3) Suite of Media Tools with Nero 11 Platinum

All the other stuff? Well, that's a marketing question, we realize that we have customers that can use basic Windows utilities or use free utilities... But some might want an integrated suite feeling similar to iLife for the PC... That is our target for the Suite...

ImgBurn vs. Nero Kwik Media or Nero Burning Rom 11 is the real question, and I think you know where we stand on that...

Sorry Chris of Nero, but your excuses don't work. You have to accept that Windows already can do those tasks. We you need to do is provide what windows CAN'T do. This is why you are struggling. Windows is getting more feature rich and we will not see the need of extra software anymore. I stopped using burning programs when Imgburn came in and that is all I ever needed and I'm a home user. heck it even allowed me to burn copies of TV show sets.

Stopped using Nero at version 6. Tried Ashamppo but past few years, Imgburn served me well and it is even able to run from my USB stick. A few MBs of a powerful disc burning program, and best of all, FREE.

Hi ozgeek,

No excuses here ;-) ... Our Suite does provide a lot of what Windows can't do even with Windows Live Essentials thrown in.. From Recode, to Picture in Picture, to GreenScreen, to WiFi sync, to face recognition photo organization, and the list goes on...

Free basic burn is great for doing free basic burns. But Windows does not provide an integrated suite of cool tools with advanced features yet... Mac does a good job, but what about the rest of us? We might not want to search, test, and uninstall for each free tool for burn, for recode, for video editing, for photo editing, for audio editing, for photobooks and etc.?

There is more coming to let you customize your tool set of media tools... I can't speak of it yet... But we are listening and our Nero Labs are very busy...
