Ouch.

I used Nero for years when it was either Nero or Roxio. But I don't need the whole suite! A break down would have been fine... and I would have still been a customer.

This free version doesn't even support multisession.

So back I go to CDBurnerXP and ImgBurn; they are free too and quite frankly do a heck of a lot more than this verison. Sad to see Nero fail like this... truly sad.

Actually BonkEnc for ripping, Burrrn for audio discs, and imgburn for all other disc burns. o.n.e.s. is good also. ultraiso is THE iso manipulator (I think they own the format). MagicDisc for virtual drive/s. all free

BurnAware its the best free burning application. It comes with ASK Toolbar like Nero Essentials, but it can be deselected during setup so it won't be installed.

ImgBurn for image burning rocks. I really recommend BurnAware for all other things.

ImgBurn can do regular DATA discs to.

MODE>BUILD... and it recently added support for renaming folders and making your own folders inside the program itself (i.e. INPUT>ADVANCED)

p.s. but i do like BurnAware's interface as it's better than CDBurnerXP's in my opinion but i recommend CDBurnerXP over BurnAware because of the 'ASK Toolbar' crap as CDBurnerXP don't even attempt to install any bs at all

Yep, imgburn & CDBurnerXP together pretty much cover it all

110percent agree! ... ImgBurn is THE BEST for general data burning (it beats pretty much ALL data burning software in my opinion) and i used to like 'Burrrn' for AUDIO CD's but it had issues converting a .mp3 file my sister 'obtained' online and after i seen that i lost confidence in and and switched to CDBurnerXP and that worked fine.

From the wording of the article, this is just for data burning? Not audio burning?

That makes it totally useless to me.

This isn't much of thing at all!!

Also everyone be aware that you're not getting their "world-renowned data disc burning and copying features". Your getting an extremely trimmed (almost to the point of being useless) version of Nero Startsmart that does all the burning. You're not actually getting Nero Burning Rom. Windows itseld can do pretty much all that this can do, with the exception of disc to disc copying.

Isn't StartSmart just a quick loader interface that loads the appropriate Nero application for the specific task asked? (i.e. if you select Data CD, Burning Rom is loaded).

I haven't tried it, but it may be the case that Nero Express is loading and not the full-featured Burning ROM application.

+1 ... CDBurnerXP (even BurnAware FREE is nice and i prefer BurnAware's interface over CDBurnerXP but ill recommend CDBurnerXP since it don't attempt to install any BS like i believe Burn Aware slightly attempts to) is better since it don't attempt to install ANY BS like some apps do.

besides Nero pretty much became bloated after Version6.

now it's all about ImgBurn www.imgburn.com (which is the masterpiece of (data) burning software) .... and CDBurnerXP is what i prefer for burning general AUDIO CD's ('Burrrn' used to be the best (loads up real fast and gets straight to the point) until it had issues converting some MP3's my sister 'got' where as CDBurnerXP did not)

my only real complaint with CDBurnerXP is i wish they would put the 'write speed' in a more obvious place so you could adjust it in the options prior to burning a disc so that it don't burn the AUDIO CD's at max speed since 40X+ burning speed is generally not recommended for CD-R's in general. (16-32x is usually the good range for CD-R burn speed overall)
