Netflix is currently offline [Update] it's back

Media distribution giant Netflix is currently offline. Their website states that the Netflix website and the DVD shipping operations are temporarily down. It is unknown what is causing the down time and how far reaching the outage spreads. Currently it appears you can log in to the remote applications but performance is quite poor and anything that requires access to their home website is not working at this time.

While it is not uncommon for websites to occasionally go down, this is among the first time that the popular video service has experienced down time. The interesting part of this outage is that it also affects their DVD shipping operations. If you are expecting a movie in the mail, it may now be delayed because of this outage.

If you have forgotten your password to your account, it is not possible to recover it at this time as you need to visit Netflix.com. Ironically, even when Netflix is offline, their webpage is still advertising a service you cant currently access.

[Update] The new message (different from the one above) states that streaming is now offline too.

[Update #2] Netflix is now online.

How is that interesting you cant pick a dvd from the website and they cant access your dvd queue to ship your next dvd/bluray.

Nobody finds that part strange and funny?

Back for some I guess, the site is only half usable for me right now. Half the links send me RIGHT BACK to my Netflix home page

I always wondered what that little red button did. Know I know. Wonder if I can use it on Walmart and lock it down? hmmm

Well I'm streaming "Lost - Season 5" right now with no problems, maybe it's sporadic.

Streaming Lost? That is a problem in its self. I enjoyed the first few seasons, but 5 went downhill and 6 went from bad to pointless.

Funny, opening up my xbox guide here, I have.... 2 friends "Watching a movie"

I have a friend that's apparently been watching the same movie for three months. Either that or it's stuck.

The site tells me that the Instant Streaming is down, not DVD shipping operations.
I thought it was kind of weird that their problem would take down DVD shipping (and that they'd even mention it if it did).

It could have been both. If their database was down the webpage would be useless and DVD stuffing/addressing would not be possbile either.

Downtime happens...

ho hum. nothing new to netflix. major gripe lately. I downgraded to 2 disks but added the ability to rent blu ray. Well there's an option on whether I want dvd or blu ray, most I want in dvd. But it keeps sending blu ray... So they finally just sent three free disks for a week of silliness.. Send back 3 copies of one movie all at once. Thats what they told me. For some reason the computer machines in Iowa are selecting blu rays instead of dvds. Customer Service as of Saturday couldn't explain it. Couldn't explain it Wed last week either.

Great story, nothing to do with the article.

I rarely have issues with Netflix. Best thing I did was get rid of Comcast and get Netflix. Also they have just recently added tons of new streaming content like Disney shows that my kids love. I think you are alone in your griping.
