New Windows 8 TV ads greet the new year

The year 2013 may have just begun, but Microsoft is still pushing Windows 8 like they did at the end of 2012 in a new series of TV ads. The company uploaded a number of new commercials on its YouTube channel in the past few days, including two that were posted late Tuesday.

One of the new clips features the song "Everything at Once," from Lenka, an Australian singer-songwriter who also appears in the TV ad in some rather odd pajamas and dancing the robot, apparently. The Windows 8 portion of the commercial sees several of the operating systems' pre-installled apps such as Maps and Mail at work.

Another of the new TV ads, Free To Be Me, shows a user playing with the Fresh Paint app from Microsoft, which was the center of an earlier Windows 8 commercial. This new clip shows two third party Windows 8 PCs, the Lenovo Yoga 13 convertible and the Asus VivoTab tablet.

Another recently uploaded commercial shows a man trying to buy an engagement ring on a Windows 8 touch screen notebook. Finally, another new Windows 8 TV ad shows how a man working in a boring office cubical uses his Acer Windows 8 notebook to book a trip to Rio and learn how to play the local musical instruments, namely the Pandeiro.

Well, I thought the second ad is the most convincing , because it comes with an explicit message, that sounds almost objective : " do what you want". It reminds a bit apple marketing compaign with slogan "There's an app for just about anything" . However the example of paint fail to impress .

these ads move too quickly for people to know what features they are showing. they need to find a better way to show key features without confusing people

Yeah to reiterate, the first two ads were running frequently on Canadian TV since launch. Songs are really catchy.

Great pitches for a personal device. Why have there been not been any commercials showing some kind of productive activity in an office type setting with a tablet using Windows-8? Because the tablet with Windows-8 can't do it. Thus, the much less than unqualified success that Microsoft and some others would like to have you believe.

How do you mean? The benefit of a Windows 8 tablet is that you can use it as a tablet and get the basics done fast while mobile. But at the same time you have a full PC in your hand that is able to have company software on it that is also running on the company desktops.

So how do you mean tablet Windows can't do it? It can do it, even the RT version has Office although it isnt recommended for any company that has legacy software (as in: all of them). But Windows 8 is a great alternative to install on the tablet-PCs of company representatives that are currently walking around with an iPad and need to call the office to get figures out of company software.

The Lenka commercial is spot on. It summarizes all the major problems of Windows 8 succintly - it tries to be everything at once.

I don't have a problem with that. I'm currently using it on a desktop and it offers me the full Windows experience, its faster and the new UI is easy. Unlike the classic UI it will also work with touch so I plan to have my next PC be a tablet-PC that can also function as my desktop via a docking station.

The "everything at once" commercial is an old one and has been airing here in India since 24 October 2012
Was gonna say, it's been in the UK for ages. Not sure if it's been on broadcast TV, but it was one of the adverts TVCatchup.co.uk showed you before connecting for a LONG time.

I see there is nothing in Windows 8 worth promoting, so instead they have dancing girls, people going on holidays, and some dork trying to use a baby version of MSPaint for fingers.

Desperation reigns supreme at Microsoft.

You are funny. I suppose when someone else does the "dances" it's to entice people to view. I am sorry that you can't find the use of Windows 8, but your criticism has no mention of "why" it's a "dork" to use these claims. What makes these commercials as "desperation"? Would the dancing of the Surface commercial be "desperation" as well given that it was praised very highly for the ability to get people attentions?
