Nokia Lumia 928 shows off its filming capabilities

Yesterday Nokia's new Lumia 928 showed up in a full page ad in Vanity Fair magazine, plus the official website got launched. Today Nokia posted a video showing off the new Lumia's filming capabilities including its low-light performance and optical image stabilization.

The video recording capabilities are compared to other leading handsets such as the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S III. Of course Nokia's own handset ends up being the winner but we have to say that the video capabilities of the Lumia 928 do look impressive. Hopefully Nokia has learned its lesson and this time there won't be any epic reveals about how the movie was shot.

Though the video itself refers to the new device as "the new Lumia" there is no doubt that this refers to the very public Lumia 928 that's expected to launch in the following days. The device is a slimmer, updated version of the Lumia 920 that's rumored to have a a 4.5-inch 720p AMOLED screen plus a new Xenon flash.

This headline is poor. To demonstrate "filming capabilities" you need something that uses FILM.

Everything else is VIDEO.

All this reminds me of is the last time Nokia bragged about their Lumia camera and it turned out to be a completely fabricated lie

In all fairness Apple and Samsung are more than welcome to make their own comparison videos but, well, it wouldn't go well for them.

So there you have it. Based on our tests, we'd probably give our highest praise to the HTC One, despite being saddled with a four-megapixel camera.

Although the Lumia 920 was best in low-light situations and the Galaxy S4 excelled when it came to well-lit landscape shots, we think the HTC One provides the best all-round experience. This goes to show that you can't always rely on pixel counts or fancy features when it comes to choosing the best camera phone.

Hmm, you think? http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2...e-vs-iphone-5-vs-lumia-920/

the difference is that Nokia has been winning and the fact that other OEMs are paying attention to the camera after years of crappy phone cameras is proof that they are the leaders in innovative camera technology.

So, I guess we will see more of the Lumia name in photos taken on Flickr? I don't think so, sorry.

I think we're talking about the Lumia 928 camera in this thread.
Your argument is invalid.

Isn't the 928 just a 920 but for Verizon. Verizon likes to rename things to make old things seem new. What is the difference between the two?

They only do this with companies that have no power, like Nokia, HTC and LG. That's why you'll see iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 > will never be renamed.

They also do this for Mid range devices that the manufacturers really don't care about.

So if the hardware is the same and the body is not, I guess someone here doesn't know what they are talking about.

Wow, are you dense or something? Let me spell it again for you. This thread is about 928's video capabilities featuring a revamped camera than the one in 920 and has nothing to do with it's hardware, body or name. Did it get through to you this time or is it still too thick too penetrate up there?

You are the only dense one here. What is the specs on the 928? Or are you just a silly little fanboy that you swallow everything you hear. This is their flagship, yet it is compared to a Galaxy S3. They are hoping idiots don't know about the S4 right? The Lumia 920 is an 8 MP camera and the 928 is 8.7. The GS3 is 8 MP and GS4 is 13MP.

If you are telling me the .7MP makes a huge difference between the 920 and 928, I am telling you 4MP is a huge difference. Which not surprisingly, Nokia got scared and didn't bother to compare to it. Hoping Fanboys will go gaga over misinformation.

I see you are angry. Truth hurts. But I laugh. Carry on little boy.

Nokia: "HEY FOLKS WATCH US COMPARE A 2013 PRODUCT TO NOT ONE BUT TWO 2012 PRODUCTS". Smart Nokia, you got the idiots swallowing it now.

I have Xperia SL with 12 MP camera, 4 MP more than 920, does that makes Xperia's better?

NAH!

Lol, I stopped reading when you used MegaPixels to compare camera quality.

Gotta love the ignorance displayed by fanboys

You should have kept reading. He is saying 0.7MP is better. I am using his own argument against him. By his "logic", 4MP more is much better.

Why didn't Nokia compare to the S4? Why do you think they compared to last year model phones? Why didn't they compare to the HTC One (a phone that came out this year)?

Fanboys need to pay attention to what they say. They look foolish in the end. Thanks for proving my point. Thanks for keeping me smiling at the amount of ignorance Microsoft Fanboys have to say. I always a great time talking to young minded people.

You are the one whos crying here, HTC one doesnt even come close to 920's camera in low light performance, cant wait for the reviews to come where 928 beats S4 in camera performance.

Actually the HTC One does come close. http://pocketnow.com/2013/03/1...lumia-920-camera-comparison

So how will they spin it so fanboys like you swallow it whole? They will compare the Lumia 928 Low-light to the GS4 and the daylight photos to the HTC One. You see, they are taking bits and pieces why not compare the whole damn thing to this years smartphone?

Really don't understand why they gave it to the HTC One based on their photo's, if you go through all of them there are some terrible HTC One shots. Based on their shots the Nokia 920 is top overall and the Galaxy S4 is best in outdoor good lighting shots.

That's not the only review that gave it to the HTC One. Not only that, in most other reviews I've read, they said it is pretty darn close.

But the Lumia 920 takes better daytime shots than the HTC One. The GS III takes battery daytime pictures than the Lumia 920.

For your typical person, the Lumia 920 and HTC One is the camera they need need. Most of them are in low-light situations (Bars, out on the night street for hanging out, indoor activities, etc.). As a person that does a lot of field shots, I need a camera that takes great pictures in the day. I even started a Google+ page for my shots because I have been shooting photosphere's for areas of interest. They love it.

If I wanted a digital camera or video camera I would buy one... This clearly doesn't show any great features from the phone itself!

Shows us what the phone can do besides the camera, everyone has a camera at home for special occasions to use.. what other feature's does it have that are innovative as the Samsung galaxy S4!?

LoL. I'm not exactly sure what's innovative about the S4 but yes you are right this promo doesn't show other features, because it's a promo for the video features. Once the phone is out and proper ads start playing you'll get a chance to see other features.

So you have your camera with you, all the time?

Haven't you been in situations when you needed to take a good picture/record a video, didn't have a camera at that moment and wished your phone's camera was better than average?

No, I don't carry a camera around with me all the time.. BUT, if I knew I was going to an event of some sort I would go prepared.. A phone camera is not that important to me, I only use it 3 out of 10 times.. Its the features inside the phone that make it fun to use and unique in its own way...

You are so simple minded my friend but I guess you need approval that your galaxy plastic toy is so innovative. People in general don't want to carry a pro camera around just for an event. If their phone can take great pictures like the Lumia 920\928 and video its basically a great feature. Or let me guess you still carry a pda and a flip phone with you... if your opinion was logical people would agree with you but basically it shows you love to hate on WP\MS\Nokia

Although Nokia got "caught out" with its ads I HIGHLY doubt any other mobile ads produce results as shown in ads.

Take the iPhone ads, no way those pictures were taken on the phone and then used in the ads. And that's not just for iPhone. Pretty much every phone ad is a bloody scam when it comes to the capability of the camera.

The video needs to clearly state which Nokia model this camera comes with. I don't think its clear enough and may give the impression that every Lumia has a camera this good because most of the video it compares the specific iPhone 5 to just "Nokia Lumia".

Btw based off hardware alone my next phone would be a Lumia, shame I'm heavily integrated into Android.

Vlad Dudau said,
Once the phone becomes official/launches/whatever you can bet the video will actually state Lumia 928 instead of just Lumia.

Why don't they compare it with the Samsung S4?

May be it was not available at the time of shooting? S4 isn't much better in terms of camera AFAIK, they should add HTC One to the mix too.
