Nokia's City Lens augmented reality app for Lumia devices comes out of beta

If you're an owner of a Nokia Lumia handset you can now get your hands on Nokia's City Lens augmented reality app as it's now out of beta. The application which allows users to find new things to do in their city, such as hotels, shopping, and transport is at version 1.1, the same as when it was in beta, so it appears that the app hasn't added any new features since going official.

The app uses a combination of the accelerometer, compass and camera to give users results. It's also nicely integrated with Nokia Maps to give users driving, transport and walking directions to the places they are interested in. While the app isn't groundbreaking it does come in very handy when looking for things to try out.

Lumia users can either wait until the app propagates into their marketplace or download the release over here. The app is also available for Symbian devices.

I downloaded City Lens and I have to say, it's quite nice. I do think it's kind of dubious that it found and showed me the nearest graveyard, but alas, a good app to have.

Just finished downloading City Lens. Nokia truly does an amazing job at releasing new features for their phones, keeping things fresh. They're also amazing at updating things: When I first got my Lumia 900 their Nokia Transit app didn't support Amsterdam's metro and tram network but has since been updated as well.

PS City Lens seems to be working brilliantly in Amsterdam. Cash points, public transit, etc. all show up.

In UK, not showing in market search and also the link takes me to a market page telling me unavailable in my region.

Seems that many will have to wait until it reaches the market. Link only seems to be working for some.

You can always register for Nokia Beta Labs. I just did a few minutes ago and it's still listed. The app is pretty awesome, does what it says and works here in Windsor, Ontario (pretty small city 218k)
