Not using Facebook? You might be a mass murderer!

If you’re not using Facebook, you have a greater chance of being a mass murderer. According to the German site Tagesspiegel.de, researchers have determined that those who abstain from using the largest social media site in the world are suspicious. Not only do they believe you have an increased risk of violence, but also state that employers should be wary of hiring people who don’t post their information online.

With over 955 million users worldwide, almost everyone is on Facebook at this point. Norwegian shooter Anders Breivik used MySpace instead and the alleged Aurora shooter, James Holmes, was on neither site. These two individuals are used as examples that not being connected online is a data point that could predict violent crimes. In a study conducted last year by Richard E. Bélanger, not partaking in social media was linked to mental illnesses like depression.

Of course, it’s silly to say that everyone not on the world’s largest social media site is crazy. Just don’t be surprised if people think you’re hiding something if you don’t share your life with the world.

This provoked me to permanently delete my facebook account, in 14 days I will be a sociopath... I can't wait. Too bad that all the information I shared within the last 2 years will remain on their servers, but at least it's regular stuff. When I become a cereal killer, no one will suspect me.

biggest load of rubbish I have read since 11:32am AEST (policy speech update).

Anders DID indeed have a FB page - I know, because over the period of a few months, I had several conversations with him on my FB page.

I think you got it wrong. John Holmes is a porn star, not the shooter from Aurora...

Wrong. John Holmes WAS a porn star. He's now dead most probably because Facebook didn't exist at that time.

i log into my account a couple times a year
for no other reason than i feel obligated to by friends and family..

the site is useless
i have FAR better things to do with my time than hang around there.

And lets talk about Twitter.
I can understand it for celebrity's but for average people ?
sorry but i don't care what you think. at least not when the poster
is limited to short phrase. Not allowed to make too large of a comment ?
lol gimme a break ..lets feed the nation of ADD Twits
Quick say it fast i have to update my facebook status ! go go go go GOOOOO !!!

I don't have one - I just like my privacy and I don't like buying into a system with so much power as it has now over the internet. I even try to avoid Google products if I can but seems that is getting harder and harder each day.

That is totally logic, World Wars were surely start because facebook didn't exist.

Poor Hitler, a facebook account could have saved him.

Heil, facebook! Das ist mein liebe!

10 out of 10 mass murderers drink milk and eat bread.

Next up: nano robots in milk that will measure your stress level and other bio info to call the cops when you're about to murder!

So because I chose not to have a Facebook account on the basis that to me it seems pointless, I'm a mass murderer? The stupidest thing I have ever heard...

Perhaps those of us not on Facebook, just get a glimp of some of the crap posted on Facebook and end up feeling like killing everyone!

Yeah, giving all personal data to company and telling them everything about life is a common, quite normal thing and everyone for their good should do it too...

Sorry, im not sure if this is retardness of just plain modern digital world schizophrenia.

I'm really starting to question my decision to put neowin on my twitter news feed. If these are the stories this site reports then this place isn't cutting it.

I should talk to my psychiatrist....

... also, don't forget the network of pedophiles who use facebook... hum, I'd rather be on the mass murder side lol.

All the different types of groups do share similar traits, you defiantly can't group them based on facebook or no Facebook. However I would also predict that more often then not, a person who goes on a mass murder spree typically is not very social.

Makes sense, we all know that facebook is a cia project to covertly get people to voluntarily give away their information to save millions in surveilance.
So the more mis-information they can spread to get people to join up the better

"With over 955 million users worldwide, almost everyone is on Facebook at this point."

955 million out of 7 billion is "almost everyone"? It's not even 1 out of 7.

"With over 955 million users worldwide, almost everyone is on Facebook at this point."

What? There are over 7 billion people in the world! So we're looking at an easy 6 billion possible mass murders.

This is nearly as funny as you being more likely to be a terrorist if you don't pay on your bank card rather than with cash.

Good research!

Next I'll hear how not having a Twitter account makes me more likely to commit suicide.

Funny, but the study has a point. You avoid social media, that is one of the tell-tale signs that you could be anti-social or hiding something.

Of course it's not as simple as that. Young people and your grandparents have no Facebook Accounts. Google die-hards have G+ instead of Facebook. Others prefer simply Twitter.

So because I find the constant idiocy, ads, and games invites annoying and unneeded I must be a sociopath? There's also the privacy aspect to it.

I apologize world. Apologize that I'm not allowing you to know about every s**t I take or just everything about my entire life. I apologize that as an American I feel I should be entitled to privacy. I didn't know I couldn't dislike something others like without being a serial killer.

Of course it must suck to be the 895 million non-sociopaths in the world while the rest of the 6.15 billion are trying to kill you poor innocent souls.

Yeah I know! You should give all your personal information to advertisers RIGHT NOW! It's not like they're going to resell it to other advertisers and share it with governments participating in the U.N. with a massive gun grab after 90 million people died of genocide in the 20th century at the hands of governments. No, you can TOTALLY trust people you'll never know!
