Opera 12.x is slow and not anymore fastest browser. I was bit disappointed to see that feature wise also opera is loosing. Honestly I was looking for a browser that doesn't phone now and then at google. However Opera does contact google all the time ( i used packet capturing tool to identify it. ) so does Firefox! We are left with very little choice on browser to find someone who does not contact google all the time. Btw... better alternative to Opera would be Maxthon.

Hardly slow on any of my computers and generally very fast on older machines compared to any other browser.

Oh yeah. Chrome and Firefox phone home and else where constantly. Exactly why I don't use those browsers. If Opera starts doing that constantly, may have to make the decision to quit using it also! So far, the only phoning home it does it checking for updates, which I disable. I sure as heck won't be allowing it switch anything to Google!!

opera is faster than chrome still on older computers in my experience. for example my work computer is kind of crappy (2ghz core 2 duo, 2gb ram, 7900gs, 80gb hdd). opera is the only browser that always feels snappy and fast, even chrome often feels laggy. For example on this computer chrome can hardly handle grooveshark playing music in the background, every time I open or close a tab the music very noticeably skips, no such problems with opera. On my other computers I use chrome and its very quick. Opera still fills the niche of being the only feature rich browser that is quick on crappy computers IMO. Its smooth scrolling is also way better than chrome's, and its speeddial is far more feature rich than chrome's new tab page.

Hmm... according to their changelog, this release includes the very vague term "New partner content"? I hope this doesn't mean 3rd party toolbars, etc are being bundled with this release?!

I believe it has something to do with Google as the default search engine. I just installed this build (as upgrade) and noticed that my default search (Bing) had been reset to Google, as well as the speed-dial search-bar, which I hid previously, reappeared with Google as default.

From their previous snapshot:

"We have also upgraded two internal components: auto-update and settings protection. When you get this snapshot you will help us test the new new auto-update mechanism for our next snapshot. I t should be more reliable in every environment and make sure there aren't any problems blocking users from upgrading. The new settings protection may reset your search provider to the default setting. This is done in an effort to prevent third party applications from changing some user-settings without consent from the user."

That's why that was changed back to Google

Not sure about the partner content yet..
