Photobucket Rules its Market

In March, Photobucket Incorporated's photo sharing site controlled 41.4% market share for photography Web Sites in the United States, a market share that is more than seven times larger than its nearest competitor, according to Hitwise Pty. Limited. The remaining four competitors in the top five came out to be: Yahoo Incorporated's Photos at 5.8%, Flickr (also owned by Yahoo) at 4.6%, Slide Incorporated's Slide.com at 4.5% and Eastman Kodak Company's Kodak Gallery at 3.4%.

Photobucket, founded in 2003, has 39 million registered users that store photos, slide shows, videos and graphics on its servers and then link them to 500,000 different Web sites, according to the company. Its users upload about 7 million photos and 40,000 videos to the site every day. It is particularly popular among users of the social networking giant site MySpace, from where it receives almost 57% of its upstream traffic, according to Hitwise. Photobucket ranked 34th among ComScore Networks Incorporated's top 50 U.S. Web properties in March, with almost 16.8 million unique visitors.

lately Imageshack has beeen extremely slow and 5 out of 10 times throws error when uploading.

I have almost ditched it .

The reason why Photobucket is so high is because of it's features and ease of use. (Having HTML, URL, etc, Clicking once in the URL to copy, multi-file upload) It has everything you could want and is very easy to use.

I've used it for three years.

I love Photobucket, hell, I even got myself a Premium account there. Absolutely fantastic service, no wonder it owns the market.

I have never liked photobucket it seems like so much hastle in comparison to imageshack. Even if the quality of the services are uncomparable

7 million pictures a day? I don't even want to imagine the amount of storage space they have to keep constantly buying..

Yeah, Imageshack sucks. I've been using Photobucket happily for almost 3 years now. I can understand it's market share, it works really well. I have never tried Tinypic but I have seen a lot of links using it lately.

I'd understand why Imageshack is so low, because most of the time they disable links if they get even a few views. But yeah a little surprising to see Flickr so low. But I use Photobucket anyway.

I'm completely shocked that Flickr is so low in market share.

Yeah I agree....I always thought there was alot more users there but then again Flickr is more for the camera takers while Photobucket is somewhere just to host the odd sig and graphic thats how I see it but thats just my 2 cents

..and Photobucket is much, much faster than Flickr. I made my coice based on that simple feature. Just too much Web 2.0 featres on Flickr to be efficient as Photobucket.

I'm surprised that PhotoBucket has such a huge slice of the "market" and Flickr is so low. Imageshack.us isn't even in the top five.
