Physical mock-ups show iPad Mini's possible design

Apple is rumoured to be announcing an iPad Mini in October at a special event, and many rumours have circulated the web about how the device will look. Now a physical mock-up of the purported iPad Mini has been posted for sale on the Chinese marketplace Taobao.

Created based on the rumours, the mock-up device shows off a new dock connector, slimmer design, and side bezels more akin to an iPod touch than an iPad. It also has cutouts for the antenna and SIM card slot.

The iPad Mini is also rumoured to have a 7.85-inch OLED display, front and rear cameras, and an ITO coating to reduce signal interference. Foxconn and TPK Holding are set to supply the laminated coating for the device, while LG Display and AU Optronics will supply the displays.

There's no word on the resolution of the display but rumours for both a Retina and iPad 2 resolution (1024x768 pixels) have circulated. No pricing information is yet available, of course, but it's widely believed that Apple will price the tablet below the $399 price tag of the iPad 2.

I just don't think it's going to look like any of the designs that we've seen so far. The bezel is so thin that it would be borderline unusable without hitting the screen constantly.

Foxconn involved in the coating? Probably using their own employees blood

Things got any better there for their workers yet?

Bezels aren't going to be thin. Awful idea for a 7 inch tablet. Nexus 7 gets it perfect even though it does compromise on visual appeal.

but its ok.. they own the rectangle!

As far as I know most of their claims about the iPad design (rectangular, rounded corners, glass bezel) were denied by the jury in the Samsung trial.

Yeah the main arguments were the internal memo stating "make it look like the iPhone" and the before and after the iPhone photos from the Samsung production line.
