Sony Online Entertainment's MMOFPS Planetside will, according to plans outlined in a forum post, become subscription free starting sometime in February. The subscription free period will last approximately one year, and will only be valid for new accounts. Current account holders are being given a free month to play right now, as long as they log in before February 28th. Free accounts will be limited however. Limitations on Battlerank and on Commandrank will be decided upon before the launch of this promotion. Thus new players will have access to the entire game, but the arsenal they can carry will be limited.
Also announced in the forum post is a completely new design for the UI, but only for the new players apparently. Many other changes are being made, from art to new vehicles and weaponry.
