According to a post on twitter by Hugh Hefner himself, it seems that Playboy for the iPad will be re-launching in the next couple of months in an uncensored format.
“Big news! Playboy--both old & new--will be available on iPad beginning in March,” Hefner mentioned in the tweet earlier today, while also confirming “Playboy on iPad will be uncensored.”
Hugh Hefner also mentioned in his tweets that they plan to have all back issues of Playboy available from the re-launch too, although no details on how users will purchase them was mentioned.
It is highly likely that the Playboy application will be free to download, while you have to buy monthly issues via the in-app payment method that Apple has setup for developers. Although a bulk buy of older issues may also end up being an option.
It will be interesting to see how Playboy manages to get what some people class as pornography, past Apple’s strict vetting process. Some websites are even saying that Apple are to start allowing adult content through, although this has yet to be confirmed by the company.
Apple is known to have a very strict policy on adult material for the iPad and iPhone, while some publications have been allowed to show some risqué but very tame photos and pictures, many others are not and nudity has been forbidden for some time.
In April of last year, Steve Jobs himself stated in an e-mail that if users wanted porn, they could buy an Android phone.
