Rumor: Nokia Windows tablet coming in late September; phablet in early November

Late in July, rumors hit the Internet that Nokia was planning to hold a press event in New York City on September 26th. Now a new rumor claims that Nokia will officially reveal its Windows 8.1 tablet in the last week of September, which if true certainly coincides with the reports of a NYC September 26th press event.

Neowin's own concept for what a Nokia Windows RT tablet might look like.

The story, from MyNokiaUser, comes from an anonymous tipster who said they got a chance to look at Nokia's current product road map. The tipster claims he does not know if the tablet will run on Windows 8.1 or Windows RT and also claims that Nokia is not sure if Windows RT will be a success. Earlier this week, Asus announced it would not make any more Windows RT tablets.

The same story claims that Nokia will launch dual-sim Lumia smartphones in October and on November 1st it will reveal another highly rumored product, the Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 phablet, a large screen smartphone designed to compete with Samsung's Galaxy Note series.

I'd buy one if RT is not included. Windows 8 on the tablet and phone are the only things that interest me from the Redmond company.

What's the difference between Windows RT and Windows Phone 8? I get that some just want the x86 compatibility of full Windows 8, but WP8 doesn't offer that either, so what's the difference?

The only thing RT needs to be successful is a strong app store, which is growing fairly quickly. 8.1 will drastically improve the Store ui, which will help. People rag on RT, but the reality is that it will stick around, becoming the bridge between windows phone and full windows on consumption devices like smaller tablets.

I confirm the rumor, the code name of the tablet is Pinky Panties, and it will come with Windows 8.1.1

The release data is also Sep 7

This is Neowin, when there are no news, we invent them !

Why is it so important if RT is a success or not? Why do people keep making a big deal about it 'failing'? It's a spin off of Windows 8 that still runs the same Modern apps. It doesn't matter if RT catastrophically fails in sales, people will still be developing apps for it as long as Windows 8 is a success. That's what's really important here, Windows 8's success or failure, not Windows RT's. If you have an RT tablet and just RT fails, you're not going to miss out on much at all.

Someone finally makes sense.

I hope its not a WinRT but I have a feeling it will be. I guess Nokia will be doing the same thing what it did for WP8 - saving it from getting doomed.

Here is dream NOT COME TRUE...

This replaces Surface RT.. And all Xbox One owners get a Surface RT on the cheap. Like $100 or so, with the $250 voucher in the X1's box.

Hey I can dream cant I?

this tablet is sold by Nokia not MS so why would you even think it would be included at a discount with the xbox. This wont come with a 41MP cam, but most likely will come with LTE and will be available from the normal channels.

I was trying to say that MS dumps it RT line and give it to X1 owners and Nokia fills the void left by Surface RT

I'm really interested in the phablet. If it comes with a S800 CPU, 1080P screen, a 41MP pureview camera, and has at least 64 GB or 32 GB with an MicroSDHC card slot, I will buy it day 1 with my XBox One.

Please let it be bay trail

If it is a 7-8" tablet how much do you expect to be using the desktop? I honestly don't care if it is Snapdragon or Atom processor. On a tiny tablet I don't see why people care about x86.

They should use whatever processor lets them sell it for under $300.

If it is a smaller screen 7-8", I don't mind. I have a couple desktops and a laptop.

The tablet would be more for consumption that anything.
