Russia looking to censor Internet porn websites

If you live in Russia and love checking out Internet porn sites, you might want to surf to them right now. Very soon, the country's government could put those kinds of sites, as well as others, on a blacklist that would block their content.

According to Venture Beat, the four political parties in the Russian Parliament have created a series of new amendments to previous laws that would give the government the power to make a blacklist of sites that would be blocked from the general public. The sites targeted by the list would have content such as "banned pornography, drug ads and promoting suicide or extremist ideas." If a website is found to have such content, the site will be asked to remove it within 24 hours before they are placed on the blacklist.

The amendments are scheduled to be presented to the full parliament this week for a vote and its possible they could be passed with a first reading. If that happens, the government will work with an unnamed non-profit organization to help monitor websites.

All of this activity sounds more than similar to China's Internet censorship laws, which has been labeled "The Great Firewall' by others.
