Samsung Galaxy Tab shown off in official video teaser

While Apple’s iPad may be dominating the tablet market thus far, Samsung has their own answer in the works - the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Today, their advertising campaign began to pick up steam by means of a new 19-second promotional video, and as Engadget points out, several new features are listed, many of which are noticeably absent from Apple’s own offering.

According to the video, the Tab will feature Android 2.2 as its operating system, along with video calling and “full web browsing,” including Adobe Flash support. The device itself makes use of a 7” inch screen, as well as what appear to be capacitive buttons.

Other notable features include HD video playback, E-reader functionality, a Swype keyboard, and a rear camera (with what appears to be an LED flash).

The device will be going up against the current market leader, the Apple iPad, which notably lacks flash support and a camera, neither front-facing nor on the back. While many other manufacturers are working on their own tablets running on Windows, Android, and Chrome OS, it could be argued that the Galaxy Tab has garnered the most attention thus far.

Samsung will formally announce the device on September 2 at the IFA conference in Berlin, Germany. For now, the closest thing we've got is the official video, available on Samsung's new Galaxy Tab site.

I do like the size. Not sure about the thickness though. One thing I like about my iPad is how thin it is. Though there are times when I wish the screen wasn't as big. Pricing will be important for all tablets going forward looking to compete with the iPad. I'll definitely get an Android tablet if someone makes one that is as thin as the iPad.

Well i just got my iPad today but i have to say i am so excited about this tab. I love my captivate! I may just have to give the iPad to my wife and get this.

As a ipad owner the blurb looks really interesting but come on, what a waste of a video, I want to see how it works and interacts, see the screen and apps.

Off the extra features I probably wouldn't use any, so not bothered about that over the ipad, the winner will depend on the usability of the os and apps.

Clearly we need a lesson in what a "teaser" is

Yeah it fits in one hand apparently comfortably looking I'd say it's not at all thick and that would just be the jealous fact that you wasted a fortune on your closed proprietary iPad? If you want to know how it works in general I would suggest heading to your local phone store and playing with the Samsung Galaxy S. From what I can see in this video even frame by frame it looks very similar to my own Galaxy S.

Build quality looks a bit iffy, and I'm not sure about the thickness. I'm gonna wait...

Galaxy S is thinner than the iPhone 4
quality uild is awsome
the look and feel of this will be almost the same except for the phone part
maybe juste like the Samsung yp-mb2
there's no such thing as cheap build in Samsung world

really? I've had 2 samsung phones (including the captivate) and the build quality is absolute s**t (pardon the language). all plastic, squeaky, terrible stuff. not even comparable to the iPhone 4 (though I'm not sure where you got that fact from. Samsung says the Galaxy S is 9.9mm thick, while the iPhone 4, being the world's thinnest smartphone is 9.3mm).

How can you judge quality from that video?

Looks can be deceiving. My samsung laptop looks a little cheap but is actually built really really well.

Given that I've had my Samsung Galaxy S for about a month now I can say that the build quality is significantly higher than the iPhone 4, which didn't even leave the shop in my hands and as they are building this on the same principle I can't wait. And to think this morning I was only thinking I could do with a netbook to carry around to complement my Galaxy S instead of my latpop

Not hating on Samsung, but the build quality of the Galaxy S is absolute ****. The thing looks like they hired mickey mouse to design AND build it.

Looks better than any other phone I looked at IMO and actually looks quite similar to the iPhone 3GS, only sleeker

Looks pretty suit and the best looking Android tab I have seen. If they make the tab like the phone, then hopefully sales will be good...oh, and a camera with the first gen model, great. Why I like androids. You get more right away.

But anyway, shall see if this proves useful or else I wont be getting one.

wonder how much they cost might end up buying one if it isnt a stupid price.

Samsung normally never overcharge their products.
