Skype is software that enables the world's conversations. Millions of individuals and businesses use Skype to make free video and voice calls, send instant messages and share files with other people on Skype. You can use Skype on whatever works best for you - on your mobile, computer or a TV with Skype on it. If you pay a little, you can do more – like call phones, access WiFi, send SMS and make group video calls. You can pay as you go or buy a subscription, whatever works for you. And in the world of business, this means you can bring your entire ecosystem of workers, partners and customers together to get things done. Try Skype today and start adding your friends, family and colleagues. They won’t be hard to find; hundreds of millions of people are already using Skype to do all sorts of things together. Skype is free to download and easy to use.

What's fixed in this version:

  • Import contacts from Facebook showing empty for some users.
  • Further sign in screen improvements to prevent empty.
  • Messages showing wrong timestamp.
  • There was a confusing message about group video being enabled because a participant has Skype Premium. We removed this as group video calls are free for everyone for a while now.
  • More stability improvements based on the feedback and reports from you here on the Community.

You can disable the ads from the settings IIRC.

I echo what someone else said, no UI improvements is a major downside to me.

No, you can remove the Microsoft targeted adverts from privacy options > show advanced settings.

I'm not sure whether this still shows ads during video calls but all other ads disappear. I get one on the home page but that doesn't load - just a white space and honestly, who uses the home button on skype?

because it's stupid to block the entire apps domain just to block a ad and blocking the apps sub domain blocks the entire skype home page also, which in itself is silly and skype can easily fix the IE setting by changing the IE COM settings on the client. The App removes the ad and turns off promotions for the user with one click, not messing around in restricted sites or trying to explain it to the normal user.

thats one extra app running and i dont like the skype home, seeing stupid updates

You only need run the app once then close it, it's not a app that runs all day. The problem with the apps sub domain trick is nobody tells the users the negative effect of doing it that way.

they made that change a few months ago and gave us premium folks a few more spifs to equal things out being that group calls one our major feature.
