Sperm site 'overwhelmed' with interest

40,000 hits since Monday morning.

The controversial website offering sperm donations for lesbian couples wanting children has reported over 8,000 registrations in its first 48 hours, its founder said yesterday.

John Gonzalez, of the ManNotIncluded.com website, said that 3,000 lesbian couples and 5,000 potential donors had signed up.

Gonzalez said he was "overwhelmed" that more than 40,000 people had visited the site since it went live on Monday morning, which he argued demonstrated a "huge demand for our unique service".

The site will personally vet donors and meet couples wanting children. The two parties do not have to meet.

The service costs around £480 for couples, and donors will be paid about £50.

But the site has its opponents, the most vocal of which is the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority which argues that the sperm must be screened to protect the health of the women recipients.
