Spotify for Windows Phone 8 finally out of beta, gets some new features

The Windows Phone Store has been chugging along nicely with a lot of important updates being sent out and some important official apps finally joining the Windows Phone ecosystem.

And there’s more good news coming via Joe Belfiore, of the Windows Phone team in Redmond. Belfiore tweeted a short while ago that a big update is coming today for the Spotify app on Windows Phone 8.

Until now the app has officially been in open beta, but with this update it finally graduates to gold. Users will not only receive the usual bug fixes but some brand new features as well: the app is now supported in more languages, there are some considerable offline playlist improvements and we finally get track scrubbing.

The update hasn’t yet fully propagated through Microsoft’s servers so don’t worry if you don’t see an update notification just yet, but keep checking back later on in the day.

Yeah its one of the key features of the premium subscription. Been there for a long time, I think after it came out of closed beta.

Exactly! I've lost any hope of services like these finally supporting my country. No Spotify, no Xbox Music, you can forget about any video services as well those will probably never happen.

will it still drain my battery in a few hours time, even when it's no longer playing? I switched to xbox music because of that.

I had a wonderful Starred-track list, but quit Premium recently, in protest at the quality of this beta and the lack of a native Windows 8 app.

Please could any say whether it supports;

- Launching "Starred" track-list direct from the tile (this was broken before)
- Deleting tracks from your collection as they play
- Managing the size of the d/l cache
- Not continually forgetting that offline tracks had already been d/led, and therefore utterly useless when the phone is offline.

Many thanks!

Looks to be working.

Do you mean from playlists? I don't see it. You can remove things from your play queue, but you need to explicitly add them there before (i.e. playing a playlist does not seem to populate the play queue).

No. It reports its size now though.

Seems to be working fine so far (10 or so launches).

Poor Windows Phone, always last to the party if invited at all and with a declining marketshare I can't imagine things will get better.

Blah.. blah... blah...

<Did they all give you a wavy-hand salute as you left the store? You still use the bag it came in daily, don't you...?>

<Check your battery life, right now?! ...... ...... .................... .. oh dear, never-mind, still at least there's another Chrome "Performance enhancement" update ready today, yay!>
