Sprint offers $100 gift card when buying new iPhone 4S

Earlier this month, Sprint dropped the price of all three models of Apple's iPhone 4S by $50, along with waiving its usual one time $36 activation fee. Now Sprint is making it even easier to get an iPhone 4S.

The wireless carrier's website has revealed that online orders for the iPhone 4S for a new line of service will also get a $100 American Express gift card. The offer ends on August 26th. The gift card will be mailed to the user in eight to 10 weeks after the iPhone 4S is ordered. When you take the gift card into consideration, the 16 GB version is now just $49, the 32 GB version is $149 and the 64 GB version is now $249 (with a new two year contract, of course).

Apple has already matched Sprint's offer. Business Insider reports that, after calling an Apple store in New York, the store offered them a $100 in-store credit if they bought the iPhone 4S from them and signed on for Sprint's service.

All of this price cutting activity is happening just a few weeks before Apple is reportedly planning to launch the next version of the iPhone, along with possibly a smaller version of the iPad. So far, Apple has not officially commented on when they will launch the next iPhone but they are expected to send out invites to a press event for the iPhone launch very soon.

AHAHA a Lumia 900 is better? I love Windows Phone but ALL Windows Phone 7 devices were instantly obsoleted when Microsoft decided none will get WP8. At least with the iPhone you'll get support from Apple and third party developers for at least another 2 years.

WP7 devices? They're going to get a new start screen from Microsoft and that's it. The small amount of developers there are will instantly abandon the platform. WP8 apps share code with Windows 8 and can't with WP7 apps. There is no reason to write WP7 apps anymore.

WP7 has a small userbase which has already neared its peak. It will start to decrease. No more new games, no more new apps (at least good ones) in a few months.

That being said, I'll be one of the first to get a WP8 device if there are any good ones for AT&T. I luckily bought a used first-generation Dell Venue Pro last October for really cheap ($180 off contract) so I'm not bummed out that it won't get an upgrade and is being abandoned. I've already moved on to my next phone anyway. But people getting Lumia 900s even at their launch are going to be pretty mad when they get 0 support in a few months.

Wow... That wont even cover 1 month bill for me. No thanks.
At least they give you something, or would you rather not get any offer at all?
