Spybot Search & Destroy 2.0 Beta 1

Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies.

If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware.

Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

Spybot-S&D can also clean usage tracks, an interesting function if you share your computer with other users and don't want them to see what you have been working on. And for professional users, Spybot-S&D allows you to fix some registry inconsistencies and extended reports.

Changelog:

  • This release has a more modern user interface and integrates lots of tools into one security suite.

Been using it for a week or so and no issues. If you do plan on using it and you have
the 1.62 version of Search & Destroy installed. You should uninstall it before installing
the beta on your system.

Spybot will find cookies and that's pretty much it while a good program will detect much more... I guess it is free... but it's not really useful

:0 66mb, aint it used to be like 25? not that matters but ^^

Actually 15MB. I still used it after scanning with Malwarebytes, just as a second layer, but I don't see how it can grow in size that much. Just turning into a bloated mess probably.

Does anybody still use this slow a** thing for scanning?

I have it installed and do use the SDHelper addon part, have never used TeaTimer, but I can't remember the last time I used it to scan anyone's computer.

Thanks for the heads up on the install.

Well I regret giving this a go, it installs next to Spybot 1.6.2 and on my system wouldn't start at all, I checked their support forums and others are having the same problem.

Seems they did more than just change the "look" of it!

Be warned, this could cause problems on your system!

Well that's a bad way to start a beta.

That's what betas are for, lol. Testing, testing, and more testing.

Beta is still a public release and shouldn't break your pc. Beta is to get rid of bugs and issues, an issue like that should be scraped out in alpha or pre-alpha.
