Steam store now accepts Bitcoin payments

BitPay has announced that it has partnered with Valve to bring bitcoin payments to the gaming platform. Bitcoin payments are already live for some users but Valve is yet to make an announcement.

With the help of BitPay, the gaming giant Valve has introduced bitcoin payments into the Steam store. Valve reached out to BitPay because of new customers it was getting from countries like China and India where traditional payment options like credit cards aren't as readily available. The cryptocurrency will allow customers to buy software quickly and without fees.

“Whether they're hardcore gamers or first-time players, Steam's players deserve a faster, safer payment method,” reads the BitPay announcement. “With Steam's bitcoin integration, customers will be able to use any bitcoin wallet to scan, pay, and get back to gaming in seconds without having to provide sensitive financial information.”

The bitcoin payment method is already present for some users. With the move, Valve joins the likes of Microsoft which already allows payments via bitcoin for purchases on Xbox and the Windows Store.
