Super Smartphone Showdown Part 1: One X vs. Galaxy S III vs. Xperia S vs. Droid Razr vs. Optimus 4X HD

I'm not entirely sure I could have included a longer title here at Neowin, but what we have for you over the next week is definitely going to be epic. It's a Super Smartphone Showdown, and it's where we are pitting the top five flagship devices from the major Android device manufacturers against each other.

Here's what we have on the table:

Over the next six days we'll be posting one part of the showdown - the total runtime of all the videos put together is 1 hour 14 minutes, so we figured an episode per day is good way to explore each of the showdown elements. Today's part looks at the designs used for each device, and we crown an overall design winner.

Other parts will cover the displays, software, performance, cameras, battery life, media and more. In the final episode we award one smartphone the flagship winner, so stay tuned for that episode in the coming days.

We hope you enjoy the content we have for you above in the first part of the showdown!

Showdown Part 2

I watched all 6 parts. My take?! The guy loves his Droid, but he is biased towards the HTC One. He hates the GSIII and even when the S3 won, he didn't even want to declare it the winner. He gave it a win, but then kill it with complaints.

I do agree with him that for a Flagship device, the S3 could have been a bit better. However he is usign a white one that is plain vs a blue one that is textured.

The HTC One biggets plus is Beats Audio. The rest, well I do like HTC phone sto, but the UI is skinned way to much to a point I dont like Sense as much as I use too. I use to love Sense especially compared to Sasmung TouchWiz. Now I have done a full 180 on Sense and I love TouchWiz on the SGIII. I love it so much that when I change the sking to look like the HTC or Jelly Bean or Gingerbread, or ICS from other phones liek the Nexus, I find myself going back to the stock GSIII theme.

In the case of the GSIII and the One X, USA decided to go dual core vs quad and that sucks. But at least we got 2GB of RAM. Based on some benchmarks, the extra RAM would give the dualcore an advantage. If Samsung would make a quadcore I could buy directly for VZW, I'd buy it in a heartbeat..

The other phones are just boring compared to the HTC and SG3 which overall he gave 1st and 2nd place to respectively.

Feature-wise the SG3 is a clear winner buy more than a mile, but HTC did a good job. I would also like to have the One X in White.

are you going to show that the S3 has gone against android policy and blocked moving data to the external card? seeing as games etc can take up to 3GB then the internal usable memory of 11GB is quickly used up. This is all confirmed if searching for move data to external card on s3. The only solution is rooting which voids any warranties

good review, and I am a WP user, take it for what it is on news posts, why do iPhone or WP users have to come into an android news post and whine and complain about something we don't use, maybe a lot of the people who choice to use android devices be a bit nicer on posting in topics about other devices in the future, no need for any of it anywhere.

Good job, Neowin.

They're only comparing Android phones from the looks of it.

and usually the trolls come when its an article about WP, MS or Apple. I always see that on here these days, its sad, If a topic is something you use or are passionate about then yes post away, if a topic doesn't interest you then leave it be and don't troll

iPhone on release had out of date and crappy hardware. Feature wise it cant even catch up to Android 2.2.

Had my One X since launch day in the UK, played about with the SIII & Xperia S but the One X is by far my favourite both in terms of build quality and the overall performance of the phone. Still interesting to see how it holds up to the competitors though, great video and I'm really looking forward to the rest!

Normally when watching these type of vids i get to ~3 minutes then start to skip forward to bits that look interesting. I must say i didn`t skip once and even told people in the background who where talking loudly to please keep it down.
Great vid, nice objective approach, looking forward to the rest

Xperia S and One X tie for me. Former because it's simple, without curves or bumps, unique without being ridiculous (though I do like the black one). Latter because it's well-thought out.

I'll have a look at the video when I get home, but I really hope you take into account that the Xperia S is a lot cheaper than the S3 or the One X for example. And I hope you have updated it to ICS before doing your reviews.

I don`t think he``s working on that angle Ambroos, from what i gather he just wanted the best smartphone each company had to offer. So in a value for money test (which i`d imagine there will be something along those lines) the Xperia S should do well...
And the`re all running ICS

I've always been a fan of HTC's build quality. That's the only thing I missed going from my HTC Incredible to the Galaxy Nexus. Samsung sucks at designing phones - the quality is terrible, and it just doesn't feel like a premium device when you hold it.

Ooh, this is going to be good. Can't wait to see all the installments. Have to admit I'm most interested in the SIII, but I'm kind of biased, I love Samsung and my friend is super happy with his new SIII. Team Galaxy? Haha.
