Tiger Direct to sell Windows 8 for $48 on Black Friday

A few days ago, we reported that Office Max would sell the boxed copy of Windows 8 for essentially $29.99 for Black Friday, compared to its normal price of $69.99. However, that price only came about because of a $10 price reduction, plus a $30 credit that can only be used in Office Max stores.

Now there's word that Tiger Direct's retail stores will also have a price reduction on the boxed Windows 8 upgrade, and this one is a much more direct price cut. According to a scan of the Black Friday Tiger Direct newspaper ad posted at BFads.net, the Windows 8 upgrade will be available from that store for just $48.

The only catch (and there always seems to be one) is that price will only be good for one hour, starting at 1 pm in Tiger Direct stores on Black Friday. So if you live near one of their stores, keep that in mind.

The scanned ad also shows that Tiger Direct will sell the OEM boxed version of Windows 8 for $79.99 in their stores for Black Friday, along with the OEM Windows 8 Pro version for $119.99. These prices are $20 off their normal levels. There is no real catch here; you just need to be in the store sometime during the Black Friday weekend.

This deal, which we state in the article is the boxed Windows 8 upgrade.which normally costs $69.99..we are not talking about the download only version

That's a pretty expensive piece of cardboard though.

You can still get Windows 8 Pro from Microsoft for $14.99!

That's if you bought a new Windows 7 PC between June 2 and January 31 and you get the digital download version

I didnt order a new PC during that time, but i still filled out the form with my laptops details and it went through without a hitch, i dont think they actually check the details you provide.

Let me guess! This will count towards "Microsofts successfull release of Windows 8". They are basically giving this operating system away. Yet it still isn't cheap enough to make me switch from Windows 7.

Apple lowers the price for OSX - they care for their customers and want to give them good value.

Google gives away Android for free - they wish to give users a lower priced device for the good of humanity.

Some store lowers the price of Win8 for a day, the same day that Apple themselves traditionally have sales on all their products through store.apple.com, and many stores will have sales on phones such as Android phones - Microsoft is desperate to give away copies of their latest OS because it is such a "fail"

agreed..

and i don't buy this other guy's logic at all.. he's making excuses and we all know it.
we all also know a new boxed OS from MS is not cheap and never has been, until now.
go look at at how high some versions of VS are when they come out. we're talking thousands of dollars..
Anyone who has been around long enough knows all this already

Yeah, it's a Black Friday Sale... Good Grief! People need to read into everything...

If Microsoft paid me $48 a month to use it I might...well, no. I still wouldn't want it.

They can't price it cheap enough.
People are gonna avoid it even for free..

I used Longhorn Alpha's, Beta's, RC's etc
I followed that with excitement ..it was fun
Until they RTM'd it and i tried it out
Never installed Vista as my main OS and never would, why doesn't matter
what does is that Windows 8 will be the exact same situation.
Minus the fact that i avoided all pre release versions of windows 8 because
of the massive amount of info that was released about it showing me clearly
there is tons of features on windows 8 i KNOW i will not like.

Win 95 = OK
Win 98SE = Best 9x
Win ME = OK
WinNT = Never bothered with it ?
Win 2K = Awesome !
Win XP = Awesome !
Win XP X64 = great !
Win Vista = Crap !
Win 7 = Vista 2.0 (Best choice overall currently for many aspects)
Win 8 = Worst of them all !

I don't regard Win 7 as some god like system i resisted it in favor of Win XP X64 for ages
i benchmark'd the hell out of the two and XP would smoke the hell out of 7 always.
especially for gaming but eventually you need to keep up with the times and move on / upgrade.. no nobody forced me to do it and yes i could have stayed with XP but we're dragged along the path M$ chooses sooner or later..
If i wanted to i could put up a MASSIVE list of complaints i have with windows 7.
Things they should change, fix or improve but i compensate by changing a ton on my own.
I expected more from M$ after they rebranded Windows Vista as Windows 7.

Tiger direct is a good site i always got good service from them.
And i like the low price for those that want win 8 and the price marketing strategy is needed because if they charged a lot of money they would be in a far worse position than they already are.

Very accurate, in fact people are even avoiding pirating windows 8, it really is THAT BAD lol.

Ahm, Windows ME awesome? If you consider no stability and tons of half-baked features (see System Restore) awesome then yeah. Most people don't tho.
Might also wanna make a distinction for XP, since the original release was far from awesome. Quite slow on current computers at the time, full of security holes and exploits and terrible driver support. Now XP SP2 was indeed awesome, but they're almost like two different OS releases.

Still not buying it. No thanks Microsoft. You screwed up the Xbox with tiles (ooh ooh, more ad spots? screw functionality and ease of use!) so forget it.

I have zero interest in ever buying an underpowered tablet for the cost of a laptop, so why would I want my UI to become like a tablet's?

Glad I got mine when Staples had them for $39.99 after their coupon special. Got two copies and used ~$50 in rewards. That was my "Black Friday" lol.
