Toronto Readies Massive Downtown Hotspot

Toronto Hydro Telecom's recently installed a six-square kilometer Wi-Fi hotspot in downtown Toronto that will deliver Internet upload and download rates at a consistent 5 Mbps. The Wi-Fi deployment called OneZone is the largest in Canada. That's not saying much though. What about the fact that independent testing firm Novarum Inc. believes the performance surpasses that of 41 major Wi-Fi hotspots, including those in Philadelphia and Google's network in Mountain View? Yeah, that's much more interesting. The Toronto deployment is scheduled to launch commercially on March 7. I'll be personally testing it out.

"OneZone's performance is, on average, five times faster than any of the other network we tested," said Ken Biba, a Novarum analyst.

Who said anything about porn, why would you have to bring that up?

Vancouver needs this, wait... my city does, but Vancouver is bigger so there is a better chance of it happening there. WiMax is where it's at though!

Actually Vancouver's been contemplating this for a bit now - should see something soon. Infact now that Toronto's is up, I reckon we'll be hearing more from Shaw or Telus about BC's system.
