Twitter hits puberty again, can't stay up, often goes down [Update]

Twitter is experiencing some downtime again this morning and the famous "fail whale" has returned as the services has experienced frequent outages.

The Twitter status page has yet to be updated to show there is a problem, at least as of this writing, but we will keep our eye on the issue and update this post when we hear more from the service.

Twitter had outage problems last week that took the service down for a few hours. The company did not reveal what caused the issues in that situation.

Update: Twitter's status page has now admitted they have some problems today, saying "Some users may be experiencing issues accessing Twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue."

Update 2: Twitter seems to be back up again, at least for us. These problems seem to be happening more often for the service and hopefully they will actually give out some explanation for what's causing them this time.

There was a news story that came from Twitter itself a year ago boasting about almost a half a billion tweets per day were being done.

You would think that if that amount is being done a year ago..that Twitter would have at least started working on keeping up with the increase of numbers.

I'm sorry you don't like the title, we tried to have a bit of fun with a mundane topic but apparently, there is no fun allowed here.

FUN HAS BEEN BANNED. THIS IS THE INTERWEBZ, BRAD. NO FUN. JUST CAT PICS. WHICH AREN'T FUN.

Wouldn't this mean that Twitter has entered its twilight years by not staying up and often going down? During puberty it was the complete opposite for me...

Nah, I think if anything, it was more likely to be the HMV twitter scandal - as that was the top trending topic (in the UK at least!) when Twitter went down earlier as everyone logged on to try and see the now deleted HMV tweets!
