UK News: England 1 - 0 Argentina

England have won a famous victory over deadly World Cup rivals Argentina. Sven Goran Eriksson's team held on for a nail-biting win after skipper David Beckham converted a penalty a minute before half time when Michael Owen had been fouled in the box.

The final whistle sparked fanastic scenes of celebrations amongst England's travelling fans. And it took England a step closer to the second round of the world's greatest sporting competition. Deadly rivals Argentina are the opponents as Sven Goran Eriksson's charges try to take another step closer to the knock-out stages of the biggest competition on earth. Japan's magnificent Sapporo stadium is the setting for the second game of England's World Cup campaign.

And at home the country has ground to a halt for 90 minutes.
