US government edits iOS onto a Nokia Lumia 920

In a strange turn of events, the United States government has decided that iOS doesn't look good enough on the iPhone itself, editing the operating system onto a Nokia Lumia 920 in one of its PSA videos. A brief snippet around half way through the 30-second video shows iOS on the Lumia 920 receive an emergency alert notification.

Interestingly, they've decided to edit an image of iOS 6 clearly rendered on one of the older models, such as the iPhone 4S, as the screenshot doesn't even occupy the entire phone display and has a huge black bar at the bottom. While iOS may be a more familiar operating system for people, it's strange that they decided to edit it onto a Windows Phone rather than simply filming the snippet on an actual iPhone.

Wow...just caught this same treatment in the Royal Pains episode on USA where Divya gets pregnant. A radio DJ pulls out a cyan lumia 920 but it has iOS style UI chrome, def not wp8.

Um. I think its quite obvious that the Windows Phone extreme weather alert is just a toast notification instead of the big popup. Obviously the government wants the alert to be more obvious in their promo...

" ... the United States government has decided that iOS doesn't look good enough on the iPhone itself, editing the operating system onto a Nokia Lumia 920 ..."

... or maybe _that_ garbage OS on Lumia was too freakin' an embarrassment for them to effectively make their point. whatever that is. lmao.

Just shows you how clueless the government is.

In this case I think they actually get it pretty well. Apple makes crap hardware, and Windows Phone is a crap OS. So, superimpose iOS onto some decent hardware....

why do production companies ALWAYS do this kind of stuff... it's like they want to make a hybrid of tech all the time..... putting OSX on a dell system..... putting windows on a mac..... putting ios on a windows phone...... etc... movies are notorious for doing this stuff...

I guess that they mocked it with images and then had the phone's web browser show them for the video. Or perhaps a video played on the phone.

They might have just rendered it on an emulator and stuck it on whatever background image they had laying around. You can do that at your desk without having to rig something up to photograph a real phone.

What the?? Is anyone else offended that they found the need to find "busy work"??

I mean, for their needs here, I would understand them using IOS, as the WP Toasts are great, but harder to read in a commercial (They are smaller, get cut off, etc), but then use an iPhone... LOL

Not sure why the editor is so surprised. This literally happens all the time: Windows being edited onto Macs, OS X being edited onto PCs. I've seen BlackBerries run iOS on TV and Windows XP have a OS X Leopard menu bar.

Agreed, it's still odd given the work required...

And as for the Mac style Menu Bar, I remember that as well. A couple of my machines actually shipped with one. For a bit there, Dell seemed to think that was a great add on. LOL

They could have just used an iphone. they wetnt rhough the trouble of showing IOS on a windows phone.

Yes, I understand that, but so what? What are we supposed to deduce from that?

Man you are thick. I think everyone but you gets it. It's a slow news day. LOL

That's what I deduced.

But on a serious note, the government wasted resources in putting iOS on a Nokia phone. They don't need to show the actual phone in the promotion (if it is too small for displaying in a commercial), they could have just used a screen shot.

Just a quick video edit job here. Not difficult.

Yes. I already stated that in the bottom already. LOL

I was answering why people here are outraged. They are making assumptions.

Tornado Alert on a sunny day? Does it happen like that?

Yes! Hence why you need an alert system. Otherwise if it were like a slow moving truck, one would have to be pretty stupid to not move out of the way. LOL
