uTorrent 3.3 Build 29609

µTorrent is an efficient and feature rich BitTorrent client for Windows sporting a very small footprint. It was designed to use as little CPU, memory and space as possible while offering all the functionality expected from advanced clients. µTorrent was written with efficiency in mind. Unlike many torrent clients, it does not hog valuable system resources - typically using less than 6MB of memory, allowing you to use the computer as if it weren't there at all. Additionally, the program itself is contained within a single executable less than 1.0 MB in size.

Changelog:

  • Fix for Checked 0.0% regression

@Max Norris what's the size of the installer doesn't determine whether a program is bloated or not... Besides, after the installation it becomes more than 20MB. Incidentally, a few months ago it was ~300KB while now the size has been tripled!

Bloat is when a program starts adding a lot of useless/unneeded/social-related crap ( a.k.a. "features" ) which in most cases don't have anything to do with the program itself.

@thealexweb turn off these in options -> preferences -> advanced

left_rail_offer
gui.show_plus_upsell
sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled
bt.enable_pulse
gui.show_notorrents_node

But pay attention at the installation because uTorrent will install not one, not 2, but 3 extra crapwares! Nothing can save you if you just press "next, next, next -done!"

@Synthetic pay attention there is a native x64 version in case you're using x64 OS and you're insterested.

Stay with version 2.2.1 or give time and learn Tixati which is truly amazing and solid. All functions -I tested at least- work more than fine, not like uTorrent while with each new version you don't know what works and what doesn't. You can disable and tweak everything you don't need/like. I gave it completely "OS default" apperance with everything -I don't need- disabled and now it's truly light and nice.

Or try qbitorrent.

It's a hair over 1MB, that's bloat? Besides, you can easily turn off the ads, takes less time to turn it off than it does to type a message about it. Still my favorite and best performing client, although I'd also recommend Tixati as an alternative.

How do you turn off the ads?

Just a couple of settings to disable under Preferences->Advanced, takes like 10 seconds. That and obviously pay attention during the installation so you don't get the third party crapware accidentally.

Tixati looks very interesting. Thanks for sharing PC EliTiST!

+1. I was a bit worried about the direction it was heading, but the last few versions have been just been just as good or better than the original.
