It can also be used as a server for unicast or multicast streams in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.

VLC Media Player now features fully customizable toolbars, customizable Skins, supports playback for broken files as well as zipped files, and so much more.

Still use this myself, but haven't upgraded since version 1.1.11.

Forget exactly why I quit updating it after that, but what ever it was, that version sucked!

Might give this version a try, but doubtful. Don't use it very often anyway.

Edit:
Still showing older version, so for what ever reason they pulled the update, must mean this version had something wrong with it (surprise) so not updating still!

One of the best if not the best is Daum PotPlayer!

Yup. Potplayer with LAV Filters and Madashi make for an amazing player.

MPC-HC owns this badly.

They're players for different sorts of people. If you like configuring ffdshow, lav filters, and different codecs than MPC is cool. If you're just looking to play things without problems VLC is good.

However PotPlayer does both, so it's even better.

PotPlayer is indeed good. But VLC failed so many times. Right now I'm using Zoom Player as the main, which is very hard to set up the way you like it, but when you're done it's brilliant. I use a combination of Mirillis/WMP11/Zoom Player and MPC, though.

VLC: the only media player that can play any format you throw at it, but still barfs when you hit the Pause button.
