Microsoft's live announcement of its next-generation Xbox gaming console will take place at 10 a.m. local time at its Redmond, Wash., headquarters. If you are unable to make it to Redmond, don't fret: Anyone can watch the event as it happens on Xbox Live, Xbox.com or Spike TV – or simply watch it here.

A wide array of rumors about the next Xbox have circulated around the Internet for several months. It's expected that the announcement will reveal the console is based on a modified version of the Windows 8, have an eight-core AMD processor with Radeon graphics, feature extensive television integration, and have a unique take on 3D implementation. Additionally, Microsoft and other publishers will show off several games at the event, though many will likely be saved for the E3 gaming conference next month.

Based on just the 2 reveals:

The upcoming PS has been just been annihilated. The living room belongs to XBox One.

Sony doesn't have the chops to compete with Microsoft's software back-end.

I'm sold on the Xbox One already. I want one now! I'm also impressed with Infinity Ward and the new Call of Duty. Would have liked to see 16GB of ram instead of 8GB though for the console spec (seeing that this system will be around for about 10 years and 16GB of ram is already pretty cheap these days).

Completely unified. Kinect is now *standard*/included (take that, Move!). And it actually fits in with the rest of the home entertainment/theater devices. (Even a PS3 would look out of place next to a TiVo Premiere, let alone a standard cable or satellite STB - XB ONE does not.) One reason that I have had issues with game consoles (all of them) is - surprisingly - aesthetics. (I'm not a teen, or young adult - I'm an adult that has a 40" LED HDTV and TiVo Premiere; who wants a console that sticks out like a sore thumb?)

oh mannnn! this Live streaming is horrible. It keeps going to Buffering for me. I have a fast internet though. any other link for live streaming?

I have both the PS3 and an 360. I use the PS3 fairly often, but the 360 just sits there until I buy some game on sale (FF 13, Forza Horizon, etc.) for that platform. I'm a big Win 8 and Windows Phone fan, but I find the Xbox 360's UI downright *tacky* with all the ads. It's also more difficult to find content to download than it is (almost "used to be" with the advent of the new PSN store) on PS3. I hope the new Xbox will simplify and de-crappify.

lol at you, the ps4 is being saved the best for last. The Xbox is so gimmicky and is the reason I never bought one!

so gimmicky that it sells the most software while ps3s and wiis sit there collecting dust . you still want to talk about gimmicks? these are facts, not fanboy fantasies.

yesterday my buddy that works on the MS campus said they where hanging signs that just said "XBOX" with a new logo and covering them up... might mean the next xbox is just "XBOX"?

Heh, i think i'll have to wait till i get home and sleep instead. I barely get any signal while on the train.

Here waiting on the show to begin. I think the whole media s looking to see what going to happen. Looks like they'll be getting way more coverage than Sony.

Lol clearing up my RSS feed reader to see how it goes after the announcements

1.belief in own superiority: an exaggerated sense of being better than other people

Synonyms: superiority, inflated ego, self-importance, disdain, superciliousness, haughtiness

and no, I am not arguing against the technological aspect of PC gaming. The superficial belief that many PC gamers hold due to their choice of platform is incredibly stupid and juvenile. Yes, some console gamers are guilt of the same.

tl;dr: shut up and enjoy the games.

Exactly. Sure, after a few months and into the next few years, mid-high end PC hardware will be faster, but consoles aren't only about the hardware and never have been

uh, the new Xbox and the ps4 have the same kind if components as a pc now. So saying a pc is better than the Xbox and ps4 is a null and mindless comparison

Rubbish. You telling me that the new xbox has an i7 processor, 16gb ram and a 7970 graphics card? in six months an 8970 graphics card?

Please don't be silly. The consoles will have a specially designed processor and a graphics chip comparable to a 7800 series (rumours). The games will be optimized and VERY good...but nowhere near that of a dedicated PC.

I have a decent spec PC, but prefer console gaming. Yeah ok the graphics are not as good but I'm not bothered. It's having the entire family get together for Kinect sports which I absolutely adore.

I was saying same components like a amd x64 processor etc. The major disadvantage of a console is, once its released, the console is stuck with its components while pcs get new and better hardware over time

The consoles hardware is already old as soon as its released

I get your point, but being closed into the xbox ecosystem, for example, is one of the biggest negatives. Other than the hardware, which is not upgradeable in the future to keep up with tech, the software/services side is not as powerful as a pc can be. For instance, Xbox Live is a subscription based service that's needed to basically do anything online. With a PC, you have the ability to multiplayer without any additional costs. When it comes to software, there are so many more choices in terms of applications, etc. for music streaming, video streaming, etc. Being locked into hardware and software/services is the biggest negative.

While that is correct, you'll find that you need to drop even more money on PC components throughout their life cycles as opposed to the consoles.

Can you please give an example? I can upgrade my graphics card at the same frequency as a console release for way less than what a console costs. I can get/build a pc for $500 and it will be greatly more functional and powerful than any console. Over time, cost differences are negligible.

Main advantage of the Xbox is it's social system, price and compatibility/small size. That for most people is worth much more than slightly better looking graphics.

Lets take a worst case scenario and that the next gen consoles cost $800 at launch. You can easily drop $800 on a video card alone for a computer.

Show me a computer that you can build for $800 (including peripherals) that will last a full six year cycle that these consoles have been showing. Then on top of that don't upgrade that computer for six years, it would start to feel a bit outdated, wouldn't it?

You'll find that, other than resolution, the consoles are holding their own.

Don't get me wrong, I have a more than capable gaming PC that I use everyday, but things like exclusives draw me back to the consoles.

Will be getting home at around 1800, but as I've just moved don't have my connection active at home yet! Guess it's time to tether and pray!

I have this sneaky suspicion that they're going to spring something along the line sof either a collaboration with Blizzard to bring their next MMO to console/pc or (and it would be lovely) steam on Xbox, play on your console at home and then continue on your lappy whilst on the road.

Steam on the 360 will never happen. Microsoft has no interest in partnering with Valve, why would they when Valve has nothing that Microsoft wants? Microsoft can publish games themselves and take the full cut, they don't need Valve. I admit, it'd be friggin awesome and I'm kind of hoping some day we'll see a hacked NextBox running Steam but I don't see it ever happening officially.

No interest in partnering with Valve? Please - Microsoft Studios PUBLISHES via Steam (PinballFX2 and AoE II HD) - sounds like the ball is in Valve's court.
