Windows 10 Xbox app gets updated, prepped for game streaming

The Xbox app on Windows 10 is part of Microsoft’s focus on making the new OS very attractive to gamers. And the app just received one of its monthly updates, with some new features, and prep work for future enhancements.

The Windows 10 Xbox app is now on version 5.5.20022 and features some new capabilities as well as improved performance. In case you haven’t received the update yet you can manually force it by navigating to the app in the Beta Store.

As for new features, the app now comes with Game Hubs, better friend controls, and more options to deal with your Game DVR clips. You can also now set your own hotkeys for some of the app's functions. On top of that, Microsoft wants your help to test the game streaming feature that it first demoed back in January.

Unfortunately, you can’t actually stream games yet – that feature is likely coming as part of the June Xbox One update, after E3. Instead, Microsoft wants to run diagnostics between the app and the console to learn how to optimize streaming once it does become available. The video above has instructions on how to do this if you’re up for it.

It’s nice to see Microsoft continually update this app and we’ll be keeping a close eye on everything the company has to announce at E3 in June.
