Windows Phone update notification issue fixed

If you have a Windows Phone-based device, such as the newly released Lumia 710 from Nokia, you may have noticed that there were some issues with the operating system over the weekend. ZDNet.com reports that some users noticed that the notifications features for getting new messages from their Twitter and Windows Live accounts were not working.

In addition, some users reported that they were unable to update any of their Windows Phone apps over the weekend. These issues apparently started, at least for some Windows Phone users, on Thursday.

Microsoft sent out a statement over the weekend that "we are investigating these reports and will provide an update when we have more to share". Apparently the issues were fixed as Windows Phone users reported in late on Sunday that the notifications problems had been fixed. So far Microsoft has not sent out a statement saying why these problems occurred.

The article speculates that there was some sort of outage on Microsoft's Windows Live service over the weekend. Windows Live suffered a couple of brief outages in 2011 that affected the Skydrive cloud-based service, most recently in September.
