WinRAR offers you the benefit of industry strength archive encryption using AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) with a key of 128 bits. It supports files and archives up to 8,589 billion gigabytes in size. It also offers the ability to create selfextracting and multivolume archives. 7-zip is where it's at nowadays since it's FREE and is typically better than RAR most of the time on files that compress well although i have seen times where RAR compresses better though.

Same, I never cared for using a proprietary format like rar. I use Powerarchiver to compress stuff to 7z myself since I got a copy years ago but if I didn't have it I'd use the free 7zip program.

The website specifically says "4.00 beta 5" so what's the problem here?

Yes, but the article said "beta 6" which is now changed already.
