Xbox Games for Windows 8 app updated

Microsoft has updated its first-party Xbox Games app for Windows 8 and Windows RT, including a few minor improvements and new features. Of note is a new home panel for the app, the ability to send written messages to friends, the ability to browse screenshots for games within the app, as well as general improvements to the app layout.

The update is available now from the Windows Store, and is the latest in a string of Microsoft-made apps for Windows 8. The Weather app was updated earlier this week, and updates to Xbox Music as well as the Mail, Calendar, People and Messaging app were released in late March.

Random Survey, those of you out there that use Win8 what is your favorite Modern game. My current is Crash Course Go. I'm looking for recommendations and I'm not afraid to venture into "Paid" land

Anyone else notice that they also REMOVED the "Xbox 360 Games Store" from this app? It makes sense, it probably confused people before. Still, it was a little surprising.

I simply do not believe that Microsoft has not took advantage of this App so far and create a decent competition to Steam.
Games for Windows is DEAD, I would expect them by now to have completely integrate, rebrand and redesign Games for Windows (without making the same mistakes) into this XBOX Games which will offer a super rich game store of both modern Apps and hardcore x86 games, all under the XBOX umbrella (with achievements, communication, network and multiplayer system etc.)

Unless they save a huge announcement for the near future that will offer the above, it simply does not make any sense to have the most successful brand and ecosystem on Video Games industry right now and not even trying to make it available on their own Windows Platform.

I would imagine they have something planned to coincide with with the release of the next XBox...

Thats what I am thinking as well. Especially if the next XBOX is based and runs on Windows 8 will be much easier for them to take advantage of the new situation and probably offer, x86 XBOX PC games in the Windows Store.

I wish this this was like in WP where all installed games are listed inside the app.

Hard to say because game installs are not done as game installs like in wp8 except through the store .. how should the pc know its a game that get installed? With lists maybe of installed games and known binaries

They could have integrated the old games explorer API into it from windows vista/7...

It'd be quite hard to do since Metro apps are, by design, sandboxed from that kind of interaction with the system. It would have been nice to allow games to register for xbox games integration, but the closest we're going to get to something like that is from the likes of steam pin where it collects games on an account backend over the web... of course that's if Microsoft doesn't break their own standard and allow the games explorer data to be pulled..

Here's to hoping sometime soon you can listen to any voice messages and record them to friends on your list. It's handy typing them, but my friends typically voice reply which then I have to start my 360 up to listen to them.

Doesn't work on Xbox.com either? I've never done voice messages.

Ummm, that changelog is from the March update. The only difference I can see from this update is that it's faster and more responsive, and I think some of the icons have changed.

If it's a minor bump in the version number then it's probably just performance and bug fixes.
