Xbox.com getting major Metro overhaul very soon

Later in this year, Xbox 360 owners will get access to a new Dashboard overhaul, but before that happens, the Xbox.com web site will be getting some major changes of its own. In a post on the Xbox.com blog, Microsoft announced that the "My Xbox" section of the site will be shut down and replaced with a new "Social" section in the coming days.

One of the big new features for the Xbox.com Social section are Beacons, which will be introduced on the site before it appears in the Xbox 360 Dashboard revamp. Beacons will allow Xbox.com users to mark specific Xbox 360 games with specific days and times when they will be played. The player's friends can then know when to join in for online matches.

As you can see in the above screenshot, the Social section has a look that resembles the Metro tiles user interface for Windows Phone 7 and the upcoming Windows 8. You will be able to see the recent games you have played, which friends are online and more. You will also be able to see which Xbox 360 achievements you and your friends have unlocked.

Another new section coming to the Xbox.com web site is Video, where users will be able to browse the Zune Marketplace to purchase movies and TV episodes. You will be able to play those videos later on your Xbox 360 console or on your Windows Phone device.

That's a pretty common problem. Just go to live.com, sign out, and then sign back in. xbox.com *should* work after that.

Happens to me all the time when I leave browser windows open for days on end and constantly flipping between skydrive/connect/msdn/technet/xbox.com
Napalm is correct in his fix.

I already have access to the new metro version, I'm also in the Fall update beta so I'm assuming that's the reason.

No you don't. The xbox.com update hasn't even come out yet.

Ah my bad, I thought those design changes were the new ones mentioned in the article. The video and social bit is still not there.

That's the My Xbox page. While it does have some metro stylings, that's what's getting replaced with Social that'll reflect the look of the new dashboard. I'm still patiently waiting for the preview to be released.

I love the metro style.. its soo clean and functional.. now hopefully they do the same with MSN and all those other websites

i got accept to the beta and still nothing, waste of time!

Don't tell me you are one of those that are on the forums all the time hitting F5 to see if there's news on the beta update. Seriously, when the beta is released we'll get it (as long as you're in the beta of course), so don't waste your time checking all the time and enjoy life. There's so much more than consoles in life.

no i check maybe once every two day or so to see if there are any updates! but a beta should be release weeks before the final product no days before.

The Beta's finished, if you mean the 'Public Preview' that people are now waiting for it's hardly a surprise it's not the most important thing to Microsoft.

This is nowhere near as interesting as:

Gears of War 3
MULTIPLE PLATFORMS

Probably a stuff up, but you never know, a PC release could actually be planned.

In your opinion. I personally couldn't give a damn about GoW3

That's a shame. Of all the console games available in the.world GOW3 is the only one worth playing. Other the PC is king of graphics, speed and versatility. That is, if you know what you're doing. You're missing out on a great story.

C´mon, Epic and no PC? Epic and no Unreal Engine for PC? Not really ...
