Earlier this year, Google announced the Acer Chromebase 24, an all-in-one desktop PC, which it described as a "secure video-conferencing device optimized for use in small meeting areas with up to two people".
Google later revealed that the device will also be among those to officially support Android apps via the Play Store on Chrome OS by the end of the year.
Now, the Chromebase 24 is available to buy in the United States. Unlike its initial announcement, the all-in-one is now described as "ideal for work or play". The key specs of the entry-level model include:
- 23.8-inch TFT LCD (non-touch) with Full HD (1920x1080px) resolution
- Dual-core 1.7GHz Intel Celeron 3215U processor
- 4GB RAM
- 16GB solid-state drive (plus memory card slot)
- Bluetooth 4.0
- Wi-Fi 802.11ac
- 3 x USB 3.0 ports
- 1 x USB 2.0 port
- 1 x HDMI port
- 1 x Ethernet port
When the device was first revealed as part of the Google for Work initiative, the company said that it would cost $799 - but that price also included one year of management and support fees for businesses.
Now that the device is on general sale, it's priced at $454.39 via Walmart, and just under $450 from third-party sellers on Amazon Marketplace. Amazon itself has priced it at $429.99, but isn't expecting stock for another week or two.
The Chromebase 24 will be made available in other configurations, with up to 8GB of RAM, 32GB SSD and a touchscreen.
